My partner jumped in the car at the station to drive home (stinken hot day)
Car will not start
light on the dash - a car with a key in it is flashing
Ok towed the car to her place 500m it was her first time being towed (slack chain tow lol)
Went to the locksmiths got a new key and coded to the car
I am sure this car hates me i will not start
towed the car to Nissan (trailer this time she is still shaking after the last one lol)
went to pick it up on Friday credit card shaking in my hand
Cost $66 had to ask twice i thought i was hearing things
All they done (well it what they told me anyway) was recoaded the old and the new key to the car
jumped in started first go (now this is good $66 and it started thats a bonus)
drove it to my place (thats one drive of 2k)
she drove home Friday night (thats drive 2 distance of 5k)
she jumped out of bed Saturday went to move the car so she could mow her lawns (you all know what i am going to say now)
IT WONT START that little car is blinking again (or is it winking at her not sure)
the question is
1. Has anyone had this problem before and if so what was the fix (in $$$$ as well)
2. Can a factory fitted emobilizer be disconnected if so how (axe hammer)
3. Do i take the car back to Nissan (get my credit card out of hospital after is last breakdown)

Sounds like either a faulty key, bad ignition lock which is the chip reader or a body control module
Sounds like once it sits in the sun the problem happens?
what model Marksman? nissans are usually pretty good with computer faults, has anyone scanned it and what codes?
Is the ignition lock worn?
Did it stop the second time when it was in 38 degree heat and in the sun?
Has it got a factory immobilizer?
If the key was reprogrammed the problem will be in the vehicles smart lock system

Take it back to the place that fixed it or call them as they obiviously havent solved the problem therefore should fix it properly.
As jaro said change girlfriends to a mechinic or one that doesnt drive a nissan psml

Hay Jaros and aussiefarmer now thats a idea i like (bugger just got a slap in the back of the head)

b5mech
the first day it was very hot but the Saturday was about 9 in the morning so not hot at all
its a 2001 n16
it has a factory immobilizer
nissan as far as i know put it on the computer thats how they found the key was not coded to the car

My triton played up once when i used the spare key , took 3 weeks for mitsubishi to fix it with some cock and bull story i cant remember, its old enough the keys dont look coded or anything but evet since i have never put spare key in the ignition .

You might have to trade cars if the girl cant be traded  no offence intended mrs marksman :)

thanks mate she has the only key it only came with the one key
she is thinking of handing in the plates and selling it for spare parts
i was thinking of trading her for a new detector but i have had no offers so i think she has to stay

Sounds state of the art
Living dangerous now
Any ideas what she wants to trade you for ?
I would tade mine for a 7000 and i think she is happy to trade me for a carton of coronas and half kilo of prawns

i would trade her for a aldi detector at the moment lol (she left the room so i am safe for now)
she would be happy trading me for a car that goes (any model any price lol)
she dosent like driving my statesman (but she does at the moment)
and hates my celica with a passion lol (love my celica)
and the turtle is to heavy for her (see there is a god lol)
the old saying a second class drive is better then a first class walk

If it was an aftermarket key it might have issues in the reprogramming, have seen a couple of aftermarket keys that took a few go's to reprogram
The factory Nissan scan computer may have had issues with the reprogram so would have a chat to them and see if they will try again at no cost,
they may end up pointing the finger at the ignition barrel
Just to make sure 1; battery a1 and tight/ no corrosion on terminals, If the computer loses it's reference for a period of time it resets and could be the reason it dropped it's code
2 Has anyone hacked a stereo into the system?
If it has a imobilizer fitted it can be removed and could be an issue but wouldn't show up in a scan as I'ts not a factory part
Do you know how to soldier could steer you through but involves chasing the little black boxes wiring removing and rejoining the switching circuit
No matter what your stuck without being able to scan so would attack nissan with a you didn't recode my key properly act and try and get a freebe first
Your local auto elect should have a good scanner and know how to use it properly :)

Thanks b5 i will try nissan again and see what they say
it costs every time i have to tow it $50
i will let you know how i go

If you get stuck with a key issue these are the guys I now ring on any model I can't scan, Northern Sydney Area
http://www.northernsuburbslocksmiths.com.au/
AMG Locksmiths :) No fuss
The rest of the guys around here that cut key/transponders are chumps they can't don't and won't tell you that it needs reprogramming
but tell you they put the code in when they cut it
when you go back saying it won't start your car they give you someone else's business card
You should have a mobile guy down your way that would be able to do it on site if the nissan path fails
Good luck Marksman and don't take s#$t off the fool behind the nissan reception desk  He's just another chump
Don't forget your receipt but avoid showing it to them til the jobs done, in case they bill you for the same job with a different definition

I'll put a few questions to a some mates in the game.

A few questions answered will help.

1) How long have you had the vehicle.

2) How much of it's history do you know, reason being the early model vehicle control modules only allowed a certain amount of keys to be programmed.

The other scenario may be a short in the loom, has the vehicle been involved in a bingle. If it has had a bingle no amount of technology (plugging in to diagnostic machines) will determine this fault. It's a matter of find and seek (process of elimination) that will reveal the short causing the issue potentially. I know blokes who are savy but still spent more than a day to work it out and these blokes are well experienced Automotive Locksmiths with year's of experience.

The dealer will tell you their findings without understanding the problem in its entirety. I don't mean to worry you but better to be informed than believe ********, remember the old saying ******** baffles brains.

Pm if you need any further help.

She has had the veh for a few years now
She has had no bingle
The only key was the one that came with the veh so only one key was cut last week
Her idea now is she cant trust the car anymore so it has to go eather working or not but that may change as the days go on
I will pm you later in the week
Thanks for your help

check the starter motor hit it with a hammer might have dirty contact on the solenoid inside
hold the key on while you hit it

Make sure no other chipped keys are on same key ring ............... transponder will try to read both. Operate front door lock manually with key several times then try.
Make sure there is nothing near vehicle that could cause RF interference ?
