I'm Tony, new to gold prospecting, looks like a great activity for camping with my wife.
We have an entry level detector (Minelabs vanquish 540 Evo) and a gold pan.
So far I have been investigating the creek on my parents property in Macclesfield, found 6 tiny specks in on spot. There are also numerous mines near the creek, with 2 of them measuring 4.2 metres in depth.
My understanding is that the mining ceased in the 1860's due to water ingress.
This certainly bears true with both the deep mines being wet at the bottom, one with shallow water in it.
To be investigated further...

Hi Tony.
I'll be interested to see how you go using the 540 for gold hunting.

I've got a 540 but I use it for coin and artefact hunting. Mainly urban unless on holidays.
