Im a Newcastle local with various experiences test panning in some surprising spots in the Newcastle area.Im interested in history and Gold, gems and artifacts of all kinds. On a less fun than fossicking note - I noticed comments regarding rutile mining locally..? I thought the earms and ears processes had eradicated that dangerous work. I also have experience in and worked with rutile in industry- re: ilmenite roasting for t02 etc yet I'd rather spend time near black mineral sands for hobby fossicking.
