Hi Guys,

We are hooking up the camper and heading north to Lismore from Batemans Bay in about three weeks. May throw in the gpx and a pan if you guys can convince me of some good camping spots and gold towns that are "must see" places. Don't need secret locations just some interesting places to explore. I'll do my own research. Tuena is out as we'll be there on the long weekend. Just interested to see what people recommend.

Cheers and thanks

Les

Hmmm. Probably just Nundle . Wouldnt say its a must see or do but has a nice town and van park " and pub"on the river and there is some good gold if you hit the crevices in the deeper parts . Plenty of area's to scout around so if a fossick is a must and you need a stop over for a few days well it is a nice spot that always seems to atract nice people as well :Y:
Gaz

Oh there is also some good fishing , not that ive done it " never had rods at the time " but ive seen PLENTY when ive been there , so all in all its a good spot to relax and do what ever you feel like doing :)

Thanks GaryO. Sounds like Nundle might be on the list. I like the idea of the pub on the river. Just need a few more places to add to Nundle.

Cheers mate

If you would like a walk thru the amazon jungle. Around coffs harbour there are numerous mines and creeks. Swinging a detector around the mines might be a problem, but if you can make your way down to the creeks its pretty easy going.

Gday Lesgold you could try Drake a few mine's in the area and the put ain't bad either , not sure about the camping maybe at the back of the pub

Thanks Bluecurrant. Any yellow in the creeks around Coffs?

Not in Coffs itself, Up in the Hills behind Coffs Harbour... Nana Glen, Lowanna, Ulong, Glenreagh and Good old Woolgoolga... (Bluecurrant's stomping ground and My old stomping ground). Over 80 old Gold Mines.. One of the Biggest Gold areas in NSW... Still plenty to be found.. and a lot of National Parks too.... The Old Timers got 6oz per pan in some areas and some Very Big Nuggets too.... :Y:

Drake is also another Area to have a look around and a good Camp is at a place close to Drake called Alice, you can camp beside the River, or head up into the Hills of Ewingar state Forest plenty of Crystals and a bit of fine Gold and a Forestry Camp you can stay at....
Hograth Range has Labdorite and for a small fee you can dig on a farmers property...
For a really Pretty Drive (take a few days to enjoy)and some Fine Camps you can do the run from Kempsy all the way up to Drake on the Back roads if you have a 4x4... There is some Beautiful Country around there...
If you need any Directions just ask.. :Y:

LW....

Thanks LW. Looks like I'll be talking to Mr Google a bit in the next couple of weeks. The Coffs area sounds quite interesting. Looks like the fishing rods may have to be thrown in as well. 6oz per pan. Wow. I'd be happy to settle for 5 lol. Thanks for the info. May contact you soon.

Cheers

As loneWolf said above. a 4x4 would take you to all spots, not a necessity thou. The ticks and mozzies are starting to appear so some bushmans would be handie. Plenty of info on the net, digs etc. Very senic country and lots of old growth rainforest about. Just be carefull around the old mines. It was mainly hard rock mining done in the early times. The vegetation is quite thick around them so watch your step. And yes take your fishing gear, i have been landing a few good jewfish over 20kg on the beaches

A rod in one hand and detector in the other. Can it be done? The detecting will slow up for me when the ticks, mozzies, leaches and snakes come out for a feed. I think the pan will have to come out as the weather warms up. Thanks for your help and advice guys. A Jewie off the beach would be a nice bonus.

Cheers

Les
