Head Phones

Looking to buy some new headphones, have tried sunray gold pro ,grey ghost ,and a few others types, have found them all to tight on my head they are like ear muffs converted to headphones if stretching them they end up falling of when digging. I have found Koss ur 30 are good just looking for a pair with a bit more punch any suggestions thanks regards john

I reckon headphones are a hard thing to recommend - what suits me may not suit you or someone else.
Having only recently gone back to trying headphones I got a set of Sennheiser HD-280 pro's https://www.storedj.com.au/products/SEN-HD280-PRO
So far I'm finding them very good for comfort, good sound etc. If comfort & fit are big drawcards I'd try a few first, even at a music shop or similar, so you can get a feel for some yourself plus you will know if the build/quality will stand up to detecting.

That's exactly how those makes/models are made, also BJ, Chef and Predator brands! Perhaps the best solution would be to get a smaller head! :lol:

Hi-fi (especially DJ-type) headphones may well be better fitting, but their sound quality - wide frequency range and often heavy bass emphasis - will be very different to specialist detecting brands, while their impedance may limit output volume and their cables will be less able to cope with rough usage and intense UV exposure in the goldfields.

Hi Mate, I bought two pare of linktech of ebay $140+ post for my last trip away They are the best head phones i have ever used they are small fit tight on the out side of your ears, take a 1 small AAA battery they will work with out the battery, Find on ebay and read the imfo, they are what they say, Ron.

I used some 32ohm Sennheiser head phones today and found that for my application were not good enough but with a pair of sony 16 ohm ear buds the signals were coming in a lot stronger . I wear a broad brim hat ( need to protect the last remaining hairs ) so a lot of headphones are out for me .

Impedance means little in terms of suitable headphones for detecting purposes. You can use anything as most modern detectors will have impedance matching circuitry from say 16 ohm to 150 ohm.

Decibels SPL (sound pressure level) per milliwatt is the more impotant aspect. DBSPL/MW
