I have been watching this thread from the start as It is a feel good story which gave me a lift and a smile , Flash , you are the future of this great hobby mate , your enthusiasm is infectious and I hope you continue to post and add to your first nugget.

Put it in a display container and mabey with a little note or description and keep hold of it forever mate because every find is unique. I have some rocks left over from my childhood collection and finds ive had for years. Its all meaningful and sentimental, and there's nothing wrong with keeping hold of a few memories here and there... though I must warn you, a small collection grows to a habit within weeks..

Back in the day (early 80's), my wife and I used to have a similar looking nugget that we'd found in a patch notable for blackened gold and we named it "the sheep ****", because that's exactly what it looked like, so these things can happen! :lol:

So Flash's find is definitely in with a chance!

I'm sure some of guys can relate to this, went out to creswick this afternoon for a quick swing, left home about 4pm m, got to creswick at about 5.10pm, set up and then off to have a swing over the spot is picked, so for the next 3.5 hrs I work back and across the gully I was in, pick up numerous lead pellets, slugs, bullets etc. for nothing, so at about 8.45om I decided it was getting dark so I headed back to the car, following a little gully down back to the road, muttering something about should have stayed home on the couch and not waste my time, hit the road and started to walk back to my car, got to about 20 ft from my car, only had 1 ear plug in, about to turn the machine off when I accidentally swung the detector as I was trying to turn it off, I heard it sound off and thought it was just another bit of lead and wasn't going to even dig it but thought what the hell, and bugger me dead a little nugget found with the 11" mono elite, I actually laughed out loud, I couldn't believe it, but as they say, gold is where you find it lol

Good find, lucky too.
I was up there today myself, PMAV BBQ, had a quick look around at a few places as I hadn't been into the bush there before, will have to get back for a swing now.

There are still a few places around there producing gold, I was talking to a guy I bumped into in Blackwood, he showed me a bunch of nuggets he'd found there over the last 6 months, he was doing really well, today's was the first bit I've got after going there 3 or 4 times but I did a bit more research and went to a place I hadn't been before so now I'll have to go back, it was nearly dark when I found that one today

Over the years I have read a few stories of people finding nuggets near their cars, either on their way out or returning from a session.

i done something similar , i was out prospecting and hadn't done any good , went to a new spot , walked about 5 metres from my car ,put harness on and fired up the detector, and immediately got a very strong signal , it was screaming . Thought it was rubbish , dug down about 2 inches and dug up am 18.6 grammer .
gridded the spot for over 4 hrs and never found another thing .
Gold is where you find it , that is for sure
