Hi,
In a moment of weakness I purchased one of these yesterday, mainly because I think I'm too slow with my panning skills.
Closer inspection shows pretty ordinary construction, cheap as all ***** clips/ already falling apart, poor water connection, loose/leaking connections, sharp alum. edges etc. these I can fix myself but still disappointing.
Has anyone used/tried these, seems to work OK with some stuff I had previously panned off (panning must have been OK as no gold was found).
Interested to hear from users as I'm not sure whether to classify down to qtr or eight to run stuff through it, the pump seems to have plenty of capacity, only running it at about half or less, how much water is best?
Appreciate any feedback,
Cheers Tom

Try Gold Sluicing Australia, got it at Bendigo (Brad Wilson?, nice bloke, but has major competition with MDen obviously)) cheap at $120, Ballarat has them for around $180 so probably shouldn't complain, what is wrong with it is easily fixable, just need to play with it to be confident that I won't lose gold using it (that's on the assumption there's some to lose in the first place).
Wil post some pics when I get a chance (and maybe a video of it in action).
Cheers Tom

ahh yes I will bit my tongue about these sluices I can see some major issues with them but would rather not say anything negative. the miners den sluices are much better than these though. The baby sluice that you have looks fine for a concentrator, should be simple enough to add a classifier, alternatively classify before running :)

Hello all,
I have dealt with this supplier, I have a HB from him and still have to work out the flow rate.

As for the baby sluice, I have seen it but not in action.

Peter.

The thing I don't like about their HBers is the ripples are 2+CM high. That can't be right.

You need some water flow. The gold will stay but even the large rock will too.

It's too bad and they are less than 30 mins away...I'd go buy one now if it wasn't for those ripples.

I'm glad you're in agreement. I did a massive amount of research...very little practical but, it just doesn't seem logical. I may dope him a note and see if he's willing to give me a demo.

Your spot on there they are some funny riffles and would be more suited to a large dredge

I saw his longer YT video- on his website. The HB is on a 45 degree angle. I looked like it was running ok but, I don't know. It's just different from everything I've seen. Hmmm.

I understand the concept, I even built one of my first patterns similar to that which was designed to be used with a bilge pump but the reality is low angles in both riffle and pitch will hold more gold every time, this is due to the vortex that is created whihc pulls heavies upward and into the low pressure zone.
The box your looking at does not use vortex action very well and relies on things being perfect. I can tell you right now if you happened to put a bucket of mud and rock through that things that had a decent amount of water in it there is little room for the riffles to do anything other then to let the gold be pushed right out the front of that box. the surge would destroy the very little vortex it produces whereas a low profile riffle with the right angle has the advantage of producing more vortex power the same as expanded metal like I use.

Its a bit like castor on a car or shopping trolley, too much is ok not enough and your wobbling about like mad.

The rule ive come to understand is you only need the riffles to be as high as the largest material you want to trap. so add a bit extra for ironstone and alike to prevent having to clean-up too often.

Here i go hijacking another thread but thanks GD for the above post, i searched after reading this initial post and couldn't find anything related to the brand, but as your comments show I'm not missing much. I often read your insights into these things with interest.

i have one the same

i found it heaps faster than a blue bowl

a neighbour at work has one of the GSA Pro highbankers too , you would probably see him at tuena or oallen with it now and then.

This gear is just another example of gear being made with no real research or testing and to suck in all the newbie fossickers drawn in by the current Gold Rush. There are so many flaws and ommissions with his gear I can't begin to list them

Over priced, untested and not following any proven designs especially the riffles.

As they say. The only blokes who makes money during the gold rush are the guys selling shovels, pans and mules ;) ;)

i have a gsa high banker, i dont mind it at all. i dont know 100% but im pretty sure he makes the riffles that size so it will trap all gem stones as well as gold.. he spends alot of time with saphires as well as gold. i have never been able to find a spec of gold blown off the end of it. works well i think.

creek bed this bloke from GSA im pretty sure has done a fair bit of trial and research, has been doing it for 40 odd years from memory. the only thing i changed is where the legs get locked into possition i made that a bit thicker and tapped new holes so can put a bit more weight on the locking bolts. im no expert by any means but i hav found the sluice to work great. never been able to find any gold blown off the end of sluice even at the start when i was working out water flows and experimenting. im sure there are heaps better ones out there but there sure is worse to :)

Making a couple of minor modifications, fixed the connections so they don't leak, smoothed out some edges to save my fingers and adding some exp. mesh donated by Golddigga so hopefully all go when I get a replacement battery.
At least it was cheap at just over $100 ...... think they're normally around the @180/190 mark, then again may be wrong.

Just a quick query, when saying no gold had blown out how was that tested? After how long running on what type of material, was it instant shut off or reduced flow? How were the tailings collected? Were they panned and how much was there in terms of volume? I keep hearing on this forum (not just this post) about zero losses but we need to be more specific.....under perfect conditions things test well but out in the field whole different ball game. I myself just unmasked a huge discrepency in my follow up testing in one of my combinations after extending the time frame of run time.

Well said GT myself I would never claim 0 loses because lets face it theres no such thing. Personally when testing loses I use a sluice at tye runoff of my bankers and run that sluice into a deep bucket I expect to find a few specks of gold if ive loaded up on ironstone.

What concerns me with these type of sluices/highbankers is there is no variations in the capture pattern.
