Yes interesting read.
My gold has No cyanide so wonder if i should get the 20% price premium haha :playful:
I can only think he made that one up - perhaps it relates to the fact that it will cost 20% more?

Good article, but this isnt a new technology, Sodium Thiosulphate has been trialled a fair bit last century, & what they don't mention in that article is the fact that Sodium Hydroxide (aka caustic soda) is also used.
Its also somewhat of a fallacy that a 20% premium is good for the company's "bottom line". It costs up to 20% more to process (as stated), so any markup above the cost of production would be passed on to the end buyer, & that would be a hard sell.
Mercury also used to be a reagent for extracting gold. Any of these processes can be made more environmentally friendly & less hazardous to people if put thru a fully sealed process plant system, BUT, at a much higher capital cost up front.
I think the time will come eventually when this will be mandated by government tho.
On a side note to the admins of PA, how come we get these emojies :goldnugget: :goldpan: :pickshovel: ? but not a metal detector emoji. Feeling ripped off 8.( :playful:

Fair chance that might cause an argument about which detector to use!

I agree - it has been around a long time. I think cyanide is much safer than mercury - the problem with mercury is that some adheres to the tailings and ends up on the tailings dumps (I have analysed them), it gradually changes to methyl mercury (perhaps a third of it since the gold rushes), which is highly toxic. Cyanide oxidises to harmless compounds in the air (a bit will form metal cyanide complexes if it is not well oxygenated). Personally I would prefer cyanide.

20% is a hell of a lot to lose....
