Does the 6000 battery carry enough charge "out of the box" to put in a few hours detecting?

Friend is super keen to try it out on the way home from the dealer.

Cheers T.
Why on earth would you waste your time using a machine that hasn't got enough charge to work efficiently when the manufacturer Tells You Clearly to charge the product before you use it. :/

Maybe he wanted to try it out at a goldfield near the dealer in case he had a crap coil in that way he could take it straight back and have it swapped.

I think he's quite normal to give it a swing if he has to pass over good ground on the way home :) Yes it should have sufficient power straight out of the box.

But let's stay on topic about the battery. Another 200 grams of battery weight would have been beneficial but who knows how it would have balanced out then.

Doesn't suit everybody but having just forked out $8,000 for a detector an additional $120 for an extra/spare battery is chickenfeed for the benefit of not running out of juice over a multi day session, guess you could always rely on their "battery terminal" alternative, I prefer to have a fully charged one handy when I need it.

And for interest, the bloke detected with his SDC and picked up the 6000 at the end of the day, overnight charge and he's now out and about (Heathcote, I think) giving it a run.

My point is Teemore that I would rather have had a larger battery on the unit than have to carry around spares.
But spares it is for now.
239$ for a battery BTW. :)

My main reason for the second battery is because it takes forever to recharge and sometimes I might not get the chance to recharge it. I could go out with the 4500 and know the battery was going to last me the weekend but the 6000 battery can't do that.

Keep an eye on your GPX6000 batteries. They are three years old now and they are nothing like the old GPX 5000/4500 batteries that seemed to last a lifetime.

I have one GPX6000 battery that only ever shows about three quarters after a full charge and the other one is stuffed. It starts off with a red light at the end of charge and then shows half charge when fitted to the detector. Five minutes later and it's flat. Cheap Minelab junk. 😡

Yes, unfortunately they were crap. Not sure if they’ve improved more recent editions. I had 2 out of 3 replaced under warranty.

These guys repack gpx battery’s
https://powerpackedbatteries.com.au/product/minelab-gpx-6000-battery/
AliExpress sell everything you need to repack nickel strip, spot welders and battery’s.
Thanks Hippyty but after reading their conditions I don't think I'll bother. They want to be paid even if it doesn't work and that's not good enough for me. In my opinion they should have the knowledge to test before rebuilding or carry a certain level of risk when charging good money for the repair. The AliExpress option might be worth a look because I have a bundle of AEG drill batteries that need to be rebuilt.

I see Better Batt have the Minelab WM12 replacement for the 3030 and 7000 at $26.99 but of course there's work to be done to install it.

I’d say they swap out with a couple of these.
The wm12 Phil I think would be a quick changeover though.
I’ve had my wm12 since 2014 it rarely gets used but it still holds charge, good to know there is replacements though.

Well the GPX6000 battery is nominally 7.2V 5800mAhr so it will just be 4 x 3.7V 2900mAhr 18650 batteries in 2S2P config.

When my 6000 battery dies I will be carefully pulling it apart and desoldering the existing cells and resoldering in 1st class new ones like Panasonic NCR or Sony VTC.

$50 tops

There are four security Torx screws.

The only marking on the batteries is this code and a 'B'
