Would love to see Minelab release a new model
in a new Case that does not fold, with an 11" coil
and a Fine gold setting where you can set the size of
Gold you want to detect.

That sounds just like the gpx5000 ;)

I would love minelab to release another gpz series
With 11" standard coil and fine gold setting with
No gps or mapping with 85% depth capability
Of the 7000.

if budget allows i will upgrade to a 5000. Very
Nice machines.

I seriously don't know why they don't release a basic GPZ 7000 module that attaches to GPX series with no GPS or wireless functions, just the detector, you'd need the module and Super D coil. I'd buy it in a flash.

Synthesiser and audio software companies do it all the time, sometimes even bringing out software versions of digital hardware.

Anyway a stripped down version would be great but not likely I'd say.

Wolf, the SDC has the finest of Gold settings, if you borrowed 1 for a week I can assure you that you would not want to hand it back. The GPX series are very serious detectors, the SDC is fun and finds the goods without having to constantly ***** what timings and coils and other settings suit which ground.

For an intro to Gold detecting the SDC is unbeatable for early successes, for serious prospecting you'd want a GPX.

I have both and like the both of them so I'm not biased either way.

I looked at one and had one thrown at me
At a ridicolous price but knocked it back.

I am staggered at the gold size it finds so tiny.

Not interested.

Wolf I was just summing up my experience as an owner of both units for the OP, I'm not trying to sell you one. I have a zero care factor when it comes to what others actually buy or use, though am always happy to offer advice.

My recent experiences from outings:

SDC finds 5x the number of nuggets a GPX with a big coil finds :D  :D

GPX finds 20x the nugget weight of the SDC  :D

I have concluded that these machines work great in partnership as they promote different styles of detecting. The SDC is fantastic for small gold recovery on well worked areas or areas with shallow soils/bedrock. While the GPX is great for covering hill slopes and gullies with deeper soils and areas adjacent to workings for those bigger and deeper targets. A sadie coil on the GPX seems to clean up almost as good as a SDC.

The size and convenience of the SDC is definitely a plus but the GPX7000 bridges the gap.

I think you need to decide what style of detecting you prefer and go for the machine that suits you better.

As for a family holiday, an ALDI or other relic detector for the beach or playgrounds is a load of fun and as is discriminates out junk can also be useful on the goldfields for that 1850s penny.

Enjoy

The 4500 and 5000 are easy to use for beginners they both have a factory pre-set to start with ,I have had both 45 and 5000 at the moment I am using a 45 there are some differences between the 2 detectors I would say the 5000 are a bit better on fine gold and may be a little quieter ,you mentioned large nuggets at a depth I think the gpx are better than a sdc I had one and was sick of digging bird shot.At the moment is a good time for buyers, a friend just sold his 5000 for $3200 there are going to be 45s and 5000 as people updating to a 7000 and dealer restricting the amount of trade ins they can handle. If you do buy second hand just check the serial number with ML if you buy second hand from a dealer there is normally warranty with the 5000 say you buy one that is a year old the 2 years remaining warranty is transferable to you from new they have a 3 year warranty regards john :)

SDC will continue to find gold for many years
GPX's will still find gold for many years, as long as you don't keep hitting the same old known spots
The GPZ will....... I'll let you know on Monday :8
I'm counting on it PT. Like all your reviews. Can't wait for this one. Note is a public forum but do you have some spots in mind? I'd love to see this thing at my local after two 1ounce plus pieces among others have been pulled up in the last two months at the edges of a gpx 14. Couple of blokes waiting on depth reviews myself included.

Thats what Ive been waiting to hear. Buy a gpx5000 with a sadie coil and you get something similar to a sdc2300 for small stuff. And still got depth when using larger coils. I've been backward and forwards trying to work out which one to get and i think maybe the gpx is the best all round machine for the moment for me.

I have a 6in coilteck coil which I believe will pick anything the sdc2300 will pick up. I don't use it often as I prefer to cover more ground. But this coil in fine gold settings is amazing on fine gold
