GPX 5000 has anyone used it at parks and beaches

Just wondering if anyone uses it at beaches and parks for relic hunting or jewellery

Yes I have a couple of times at the beach, can be very noisy even in salt mode. however, I'd need to have done a lot more playing with the settings than I did.

My biggest issue is carrying all that gear compared to something like a 705 or ilk, when wandering in the sand.

Will it work? - yes, will other detectors in the VLF range be better? - probably, are they cheaper? - absolutely.

Not a good machine for parks, the amount of digging you would be doing will cause trouble with the council.
You need a discriminating machine

My gf can help with that with pinpointing with her machine, so the hole isn't huge, and I alawys make it look nice and neat after, that's not really a issue for me

I wouldn't bother. My 4500 went nuts in our local park from emi, power lines. You won't be able to ID any targets either.

Yeh my 5000 with double D coil works a treat at the beach, only problem is you get sick of digging 1metre plus holes for cig packets and cans.
You will spend the day on your knees sucking air and having to get your GF massaging your back at night. Still I suppose that's not the worst thing in the world. layful:

I used to use a whites tdi at the local lake,boy did I dig some big humongous holes!..but I did find a 18 carat gold ring 6 inches down in the sand.soooo,the answer is yes,but I would go to the gym for 2 months in advance to get fit first!

keep the 5000 for the gold and buy a vanquish for parks and beaches

I use a vanquish for beaches and parks, sdc2300 &5000 for Goldfields.

I would go Equinox 800 for beaches. Totally waterproof and works very well.

I have had very good success with my Equinox 800 on the beaches. For beach use, I wouldn't swap it for the world. I stick to the bush for my GPX 5000 and SDC2300.

The 5000 will go seriously deep.
I dug 2ft down for a lead sinker at Coffs Harbour. It's still good fun though.

Used to have a 5000 and I tried it on the beach & I can confirm IT'S RUBBISH!
Every tiny bit of foil and bottle top, forget the dd with discrimination too its useless and many beaches are next to roads with powerlines EMI is uncontrollable (unless you run the dd in mono and cancel and invert the signal)

Buy an Equinox, the 800 has a personal preference button (600 doesn't) you can set @ 10kHz
You can use it to identify those 1000's of twist tops with a push on the personal button so yo don't dig 'em! (the 600 requires about 6 button pushes to achieve same result)
Don't buy the Equinox 800 intending to double use in gold fields as it's horrible but parks & beaches it's pretty good especially when you get into advanced settings.
