Hmmm, the oregon 600t
The plastic around the buttons disintegrated the other year. Garmin allowed me to purchase a reconditioned one. Last trip found it was turning itself off. Repeatedly. Changed batteries a couple of times (inc good eneloop pros). No luck. Now a worry. Back to the qu.
Have found the compass regularly goes 'off' (it often does orbits around my magnet). So often re calibrating it in the field. But this should not affect coordinates, should it?
Also, noticed nobody has suggested using UTM projection. Find its simpler in the field. Like; "Hey, I'm 650m NE of you". How do you say that in degrees minutes seconds quickly? Not that helps the original qu, but in google earth one can go to options-3d view- show lat/long and select UTM
