Chris, your little find here brought back memories from that year when we met you at Wedderburn.

We were invited to visit the Gympie goldfields with Yobskin and some others. While we were there a young lady was fossicking in the creek right near where the guys had their highbanker working. She pulled a piece of ancient Egyptian treasure from under a log laying across the creek. She was a archaeologist student and was blown away by the find. She thought she'd found a flask from the bronze age and we never had the heart to bring her back to earth. We'd liked to have been a fly on the wall when she stood up in front of her university student friends to announce her find O

Thats a haul there GP..... youve got some great hunting sites down there, must make the effort and visit the S.E. this summer.
btw, that digger youre using.... is it a Predator Raptor ? If so did you buy it online or is there someone in Aus that sells them,

Hi Adrian, it is indeed the Predator Raptor, I bought it online from the US several years ago. By far the best digger I've used since wearing my Lesche out (cracked in half).

Not as yet, didn't have enough time to run the Nox with the smaller coil fitted. Usually I will start out using the larger coils to detect around the whole area to check the spread of ferrous/non ferrous targets, then progress to the smaller coils as the more obvious targets are depleted. To be honest running the Nox with the straight shaft in the thick grass was a a bit of a pain, I do find the more lightweight and compact Deus easier to poke around with in that situation.

Has been a looong time since I've posted anything, but don't despair, I have been out and about keeping busy. Over the weekend I headed out to a usual mid 1800's haunt with a friend who is learning his Deus (normally a CTX user), we both had a bit of luck though it did seem most targets were either shotty shells or .22 cartridges.

My friend did well to snag a cricket buckle which was his only really good find for the day, I did get a few more modern predecimal coins before walking over silver In the form of a ring and a worn holed Victorian threepence. We also managed four pocket knives between us.

I will be posting a few other hunts as well from previous months, nothing spectacularly old, though still worth putting up.

So here is the hunt from today, I spent a couple of hours scouting a previously detected site with new information on some houses that were previously overlooked (dated back to early 1900's). Didn't get far from the car before finding three Commonwealth coppers, with the 1923 penny being in particularly good condition. Some out of place flora, stones and bricks denoted the missed house sites, and I knew this was going to take multiple visits to do well on the coins due to the amount of junk.

Other notible finds were the toy pistol, cute little horse, Lesney army duk, and thankfully a rams head shilling to finish off the day. If the weather holds out we will be back tomorrow for another go with Mrs Goldpick in tow.

Next up is a detect of a vacant block we had permission to detect before it was going to be built on. Most coins were quite shallow considering some of the topsoil had already been excavated, not a bad coin count from such a small area, and only one silver between us. The religeous pendant has certainly seen better days

Late March I had another go over an early 1900's row of houses which I had detected previously, still coming up with some good targets amongst the iron and housing junk. Might seem like there are still plenty of good targets, though you do really have to work for them and not all are obvious clear cut targets. Will be going back to test some newly discovered house sites in the not too distant future.

Looks like I've screwed up the timeline on a couple of the earlier hunts from Jan to early March, anyway here is the combined results from a couple of outings! :argh:

The dog tag is from 1916-17, and the Military button I thinks is an English general service item. I did find another religious pendant though it seems to be missing in action.

Incredible finds, and awesome spot to hunt. I found an identical pocket knife at the top of this page, unfortunately i threw it out not thinking much of it but date back 100+ years or more? Regretful. love the ring too, will you wear it or add to collection?

I reckon probably more like a 150 year old pocket knife, pretty awesome that it even lasted that long. Sadly the ring is a bit small for my pudgy fingers, though I realised going back through my finds that it is very similar in design and age to another horse shoe silver ring I found a year or two ago. The main difference being a horses head overlaying the horseshoe on the face of the ring.

Back to the same spot from where the toy gun and shilling originated today. It was hard going with lots of junk targets excavated, though Mrs Goldpick and I did manage a few items of interest, including her first predecimal coin using the Nokta Makro Simplex+ (1943 penny). As per usual most of the coins were found in the first 20 mins with coils to the soil, and I was pleasantly surprised with a 1951 Florin in what would have been the front yard of the house. Other finds included two keys, one of which is from a Minic Triang wind up toy car, the other is likely to be from a clock., and a large hinged compact case which still opens.

Last good target was a pretty good condition 1934 penny from a yet a different house site again that I was trying to locate.

Today was meant to be all about finding a house site, instead I came up empty handed and decided to have a go at an old factory site dating back to the mid 1800's. I hadn't been back to this site for about four years and that was then using the Explorer SE Pro, so I thought it would be interesting to see how well it cleaned up the goodies.

Mmmm, maybe not so well according to the Deus - only spent 2 hours there and managed quite a few targets including a Victorian 1879 penny, 1886 hp and some locally marked buttons. Looks like that will be another good spot for a more thorough detect - got to love Victoria era sites.
