Great hunt alright, love to see a few of them cleaned up as most look like they're in great shape. Wish the dry would kill off the bracken at a couple of spots round here but that stuff would survive a nuclear holocaust.

Another day and another hunt notched up, did quite well on the pennies, just scraping into the Victorian era, though unfortunately most were in very crusty condition. Oldest silver was a 1925 sixpence, the rest were from around the 40's. Most of the coins bar one threepence were all found in a relatively small area and were all very deep making for some tough digging (pinpointer deep and over).

Have also added in a shot of the cleaned "Fathers" pin from the previous hunt.

Ol Edward VII coins always seem to come out in good condition. A bit disappointing to get so many crusty commonwealth pennies, can only hope none of them are 1925 or 1930 dates. :argh:

The warty pennies are a bit annoying. Get plenty of them here too, got a 33 today that had a pimple on the second 3 that got me going for a bit 8.(

Yes, different soil, probably more acidic and a far way from my usual hunting grounds.

No luck on the eagle buckle as yet, though I do think it may be a US militia or possibly even pre-civil war buckle. What we did in the past with US buckles was to post a pic/description on a site like Treasurenet for identification, they are usually pretty good at coming up with an answer.

Back to the bathhouse permission again today, still did well on the coins though many proved to be on edge and were not stand out targets. Found two more dog tags, one of which I passed on to the property owner (1900-1901), also was very happy to pick up a second Rising Sun. Most of the coppers were early 1900's Commonwealth's, aside from a pair of English Edward pennies.

The property owner is trying to get me permissions for a now demolished church site and a racecourse, so hopefully some fun outings in the not too distant future.

Had a rough and ready plan to check out a site or two today with Mrs Goldpick, both were crap (Mrs GP got 1c, I got nothing). Anyway, as per usual I had a backup site should the others fail, mainly a relic site from the 1800's/early 1900's, very rare to find coins here though the earliest I've had was a Veilhead Victorian penny.

The stirrup was the first major find for the day and pretty cool, though easily upstaged by the Victorian Safe Company lock face and small padlock. Still trying to research which safe the lock face originated from, also managed to get the key hole cover working again, it was just jammed up with some sand. The Victorian Safe Company was started in 1884 and was eventually bought out by Wormalds in the 60's (based out of South Melbourne). Catch everyone in the next hunt

I have been a bit lazy posting my finds this week, so here is the first of three outings with the Deus.

i had an afternoon to myself, so it was off to the bathhouse site to clean up any remaining targets whilst the weather was favourable - this time running the 11" coil for a bit more depth. Turned out I did pretty good on cleaning up on the coins with one solitary half penny coming to light, though I did come across a patch of dog dags in close proximity to each other amogst the junk buried next to the actual bathhouse. Most of the buckles came from another paddock behind the site, didn't really find anything else interesting aside from them.

Ok, so the second outing was a bit of a washout, location was an 1850's inn site. I did get a few tidbits - mostly small mid to low conductors like buttons, thin copper items etc. Despite the lack of coins here now, I still find the smaller items and non coin targets that people tend to dismiss interesting finds (like the ignored powder flask one of the previous hunts here).
