Hi All, really keen to get into prospecting, as a kid found gold around heathcote, done a heap of research on west gippsland, looking to go try red hill creek or crossover creek, can anyone tell me if they are worth a try, any help would be appreciated, cheers

G'day HGL and welcome to PA. Check the DELWP website under prospecting for EXEMPT rivers and streams before choosing a location. Also check out the PMAV (Prospectors and Miners Association Victoria) they have a Gippsland branch. You'll meet like minded people and opportunities for field days, better your chances and learn the do's and don'ts.

All the best

x2 and Exempt rivers are the ones that under the conditions of your Miners Right that you cannot fossick in - here's a link to the list http://earthresources.vic.gov.au/ea...ess-rules/list-of-exempted-rivers-and-streams.

Red Hill creek or Crossover creek like many other in the vicinity have been well worked over however you will still find a speck or two if you are dilligent. A good tip, consider that the farther you walk from your vehicle you increase your chances of going home happy.

Thanks for the info gents, thinking Melbourne Cup day will be the next chance to get out, heading back to Heathcote. Good chance to fossick around the old diggings while there's some water
