Hi All,

Rob Here from The NSW Central Coast.

I have been Gold Panning on an off for years, initially around Mudgee/Hargraves when the Parents in law had a farm, then mostly at Nundle for the last 8 years.
So far a very small amount of Gold and some garnets.

With the recent purchase of the Monster I took it to Lue just outside of Mudgee and wanted to see what made it tick.
After wrangling it off my son on day 2 I was able to play with it, and it went well as it would chirp regularly, equalize itself, and still be able to pick up targets.

I was able to see hot rocks and then sweep around to cancel them out, it still squealed on nails, wire and cartridge cases. The discriminator bar was good at showing wire and nails, as well as showing the brass cases as gold. No actual gold but good to see the Brass indicate differently to the nails etc.

It seems to chirp away as I used it and equalize the ground well enough to see relatively shallow targets of a few inches. It did locate a fragment of a brass case buried in a crevice in dry river bed rocks with lots of oxidized stones.

Cheers Rob

G'day Rob. Mind if I ask the name of the inlaws? I grew up in Hargraves and surrounds and worked there for years. Went to school in Mudgee- hated every bloody minute of it:) There was a time when I knew just about everybody in the Hargraves district. Most of them dead or moved on now, but I do know the area pretty well- the history and the yarns- some of 'em true:) Cheers mate. Jay.

Hi Robn243

I am on Central Coast as well.
I usually do Hill End / wattle falt.
Have been to nundle once but no yellow stuff found there.

I am at Wyoming so happy to meet up one day.

Hi Jay

The farm was a small block behind Miramar wines, a few sheep, some cows and calves and some chooks.
My Father inlaw Roger Page came from Sydney in the early 90s and is now retired in Nelson Bay
We liked to head over to Hargraves with the family and Bottobollar to visit people and look around
I miss the place
Regularly travel to a friends families property in Lue now with my sons

Cheers Rob

Hi Neil,

Ive just heard people are finding old coins at Umina beach where most of the beach has washed away, just not sure about using the detector on a busy beach though

I found gold in the pan in the mapped prospecting area up the road from Nundle caravan park, just lucky I guess

Cheers Rob

Hey Rob. Page- don't know the name, but then by the nineties I was working a farm near Glen Innes I think. Hargraves is an interesting old place. When I was little tacker we lived in the first house on the left as you came into the village- used to be the police station. I found a huge police badge from the Victorian era and a bunch of buttons and stuff under my window- which had bars on it by the way:) About half a mile into the scrub north of our little one teacher school, I stumbled onto a little cemetery from the gold rush days. Most of the twenty or so headstones were for small children. I took my Mum down there and we used to go occasionally to poke about and Mum would try to decipher the inscriptions and copy them down- a couple of the headstones were carved from red gum! Anyway, took someone down there to show them a couple of years later, and some mongrel had stolen the headstones! Was a good place to grow up in anyway- had lots of adventures and made some fond memories :) Jay.

Hi Neil,

Went for a walk around Umina Beach, did a good job of cleaning aluminium foil, fishing hooks and bottle tops, no old coins though.
My young bloke loved looking for treasure.

Cheers Rob

Hi Jay,

I still try to convince the family to move to Mudgee now and then, the idea is good but the practice is difficult, hopefully will be back at Lue in September.

Cheers Rob
