Hi ya all been lurking for a bit
used to do some prospecting back when i lived in Vic(Elaine)
life takes you other places so havent in a few years but hope to again soon
though im lucky enough to get to play with the shiney yellow abit these days(other peeps)
looking forward to enjoying the hunt again soon though
cheers Humbolt

Howdy humbolt, welcome to the forum(lurker no more"ha"). :D

Hahaha hi Humbolt, sorry, got a bit carried away earlier :p hadn't head of elaine until you posted it. Youve probably got chances of gold and gems in a 360 radius by the looks of it. Each one of those mountain ranges should have had gold and if your lucky, mabey some deposited alluvial gold much closer to home.

What sort of prospecting are you into? Waterway digging or detecting

P.s.. I hear the gold gods whispering Mt.Doran & Mystery Reef to me and something about pyritic seams... ;) what's that? The bedrock is black and blue slates and grey slates...hmm
well now someones done theyre research
sadly i havent lived there(Elaine) since the SD2000 was the newest thing and the 2100 not yet out :(
but i wish i new then what i do now
ok so the Mystery mine is on the Mt Eggerton road my detecting mate then (sadly deceased) was the last mine manager there before it closed
He got slammed with 8 ton mercury from a ruptured line rekons it was the hardest smak in the chest he ever got but didnt hurt much
i lived bout 2k down the road on the property called Pandora (Pandora gold mine) opposite side
where the MT Eggerton rd and MT Doran rd meet just there
the mine shaft was further down the road near Dollys Creek we used to rocka box then and used minelab GT1300 and GT1500
my buddys dad was the last Gold miner with a claim in Morrisons near by so my mate new his stuff grew up in a Gold mine shaft
we did OK cashing our find most weeks at the Gold exchange in the Rat
yes Cordell Kent had it then too ;)
we were lucky to have permission back then to detect most of the propertys in that area thanks to me mate
i imagine much has changed since then :(
these days im based in south Qld and spend most/all of my time processing the shiny Yellow for others
so even though i dont get out there much i still get to enjoy the pretty
but i hope to be swinging the stick real soon again
happy hunting! Humbolt

What a great background you have there mate and to have it in the blood as well is a treat! I just did a quick browse on the local area to the town name you mentioned in case info was needed, but certainly obviously not ;)

If you have any stories or photos / film to share of your past experiences, it would be wonderful to see

A slap of mercury that heavy would knock any man down, could imagine the disaster that caused and lucky he got out alive!

plenty stories no pics or film didnt have the technology at hand back then
yeah the mercury thing might have had some help in his ultimate death we were in our 30s when he passed
i was in Tin Can Bay Crabbing when i got the news its always the good ones it seems
and i think once ya got the fever it just dont really ever go away
im lucky to have had that experience back then
I know the blood sweat and bloody hard work ya got to go through to get the stuff
so i treat the stuff i process with the respect the product and its owner would expect ;)
