G'day!
I caught the bug of being out in the gorgeous Victorian bush at birth I reckon and have just bought my first panning kit. I'm looking forward to finding and fossicking for a bit of gold around the place. I just hope that I have more success with it than I do with fish, the best part is, they're definitely not mutually exclusive! A fish and some gold or a gem or two, how good?!

Welcome Martin.
Wherever I go in this great land I carry a fishing rod and a gold pan.
Perhaps if you could let us know what region you live in members could be more helpful with advice.
Fossicking in the western goldfields has quite different opportunities and challenges to those in Gippsland and the North East.
Fish can be smart, usually smarter than me and I have more success with gold which is dumb and lazy, quite dense you might even say, just lying around waiting for marginally less dense people like me to find.

Come aboard Martin.
My daughter was very young when she put a piece of christmas ham fat on the hook when fishing the Hastings river at Pt Macquarie.
She said dad i'm snagged so i pulled it in but the line was moving.
An 11 pound flathead on the line.... very nice old man flattie.

Try some ham fat mate.
