I am not surprised you are not finding many silvers - especially if you are detecting in the Marion Council area. I have lived in the area for 27 years and aside from my son and I detecting most of the parks, tot lots, and vacant land, I have seen countless "old timers" over the years detecting every school ground, play grounds and beach from Glenelg to Seacliff ... you may want to try lesser "bashed" areas rather than waste time in this area. Love your enthusiasm though!

Thanks for the advice mate, I'm upto 6 I think now - out of 28 hunts I suppose that's not the best. I'll have to try to think of areas other people might not have been 8) I got some time off soon and want to make it worthwhile with a few silvers, need to get my thinking cap on

When I lived in Adelaide, there was a park with tennis courts off Oaklands Road (Glenelg end) that provided some good numbers of silvers, not sure how many still remain, but worth a shot. Really just a matter of locating backroad reserves and parks that might not be so obvious.

Hunt #29 was abit of a bust, only had an hour and really didn't like the park once I got there. Ground was super hard but I stuck it out, I didn't really have time to get to a different spot anyway

Walked away with $3 and a bunch of trash, didn't bother to take a picture :N:

I'm off from work all next week on leave, plan to get atleast 2-3 all day hunts going on. One spot likely in Kensington where I found that 1917 penny, I'm more clued into my detector now so hopefully I can get a few silvers

I need to pour over google maps over the next few days and find some good spots, I'm getting silver withdrawals

I've picked up quite a few predecs from there over several sessions, quite surprised on the amount of silver that came out of there, including a few florins. Fact is none of these places are completely cleaned out, just a little harder to pick out deeper/smaller silvers from the modern junk. There are a few parks around the Marion area built on industrial waste, with no chance of hitting on deeper coins (if there are any at all).

Just a matter of researching some older areas, being mindful at the same time that some are under heritage protection.

Went out after work for hunt #30 today after being not satisfied with hunt #29, I took goldpicks advice (no place is truly hunted out) and went back to a park that has produced for me before, but I throught I had thoroughly covered it. I decided to ignore my iron audio on the 400i and dog all targets within the good range, just incase there was some junk near it which was masking the good target. I'm not sure if that's how it even works but I have it a shot. As a result I got a few more bottle caps than usual but it was worth it

Yep, I plucked a bloody silver doing that bottle top and shillings in one hole. Looks like a '63 so I'm still on the hunt for a 92%er but I'll take it

Bit of coin porn for you boss

Not sure what the pinkishy marks are, this is after 24 hours in lemon juice, they seem to be protrusions from the surface of the coin

Had a few hours today for hunt #31, so I decided it was a dig everything type of day

Here's everything:

No silver coinage today, but score a silver fork though

Can just make out the word silver, has 4 symbols above which I guess will tell me when it was made and where etc.
Before the word silver it looks like it might say gem?

Can some more experienced detectorist give me a hand in getting some more info on this? I would know where to even start

"A P & Co" Arthur Prince and Co is the maker in fairly sure, can't find any info on what gem silver means though

More likely to be Arthur Price & Co, their manufacturing facility was on Gem Street in Birmingham. Looks like the fork was formerly electroplated silver.
