yeah I agree there's a lot of the forum still visible to the public and not really hidden the only things that aren't visible until you become a member is epic prospecting trips and member meet ups epic prospecting projects and comedy shack everything else is set to public for all to see.

I get what your saying HTY but in defence of a forum it should be public. The "For Sale or Swap" is and should be public in the form of making people aware. I just don't get the new (To me) Hire option  I'd hate to see good people get ripped off. Maybe I'm being a bit to sceptical of it's intent. Wouldn't mind hearing others thoughts.

My thoughts. If your a adult and want to hire your gear. Well it's up to you to make a decision . Me not a chance in hell that I would do it unless I knew the person in which case IDE just let them use it. Never let anyone who you don't know and trust know what you've got, that's the problem with hiring gear to people you don't know as you'll be ripped off soon as look at ya.

I hire my detector out sometimes not always but I always see face to face who im dealing with first and ask for a copy of their drivers licence and proof they can show/tell me they live at the address listed on the licence and if I feel that they won't just run off with it ill hire it out to them I also sometimes ask for a bond of $300 if I don't know the person they get the $300 bond back when I get my detector back but so far I've only lent it to one person I didn't know that well and it went smooth however I tend to hire it out to mates more than strangers I don't know or have never met. I might add here too that most detecting shops want a $500 for a bond then $50 or so an hour to hire the actual detector depending on what brand model etc. I know some will think its a big risk but I mainly hire it out to people that I do know and have met a few times before hand.

two experiences with lending gear out
1: lent my chain saw to a mate
i have had it for 15 years started first go every time
it came back to me in a cardboard box complete to the piston pulled out
said he could not get it started so pulled it apart to see what was wrong then couldn't put it back together again and thinks all the parts are in the box he is not sure
it went to the tip
2: Lent my trailer to a mate
it came back with a bent axel and twisted body said it was like that when he picked it up
found out he moved 50 boxes of tiles 60lt glue in one go (6x4)
it went to the tip
NEVER again will i lend/hire my gear out
But then again its just my opinion

The exact reason for the original post :Y: You summed it up without BS Bjay.

Righto let's get the low-down on the Hire bit like I said new to me so how long has it been apart of "For Sale or Swap" ?

I'm hearing you Ken lent a tandem to a neighbour who I found out moved a 5000 gallon concrete tank   WTF. So it got returned with broken spring hangers at least that was serviceable :Y: at the same time bloody rude :N:. However I'm still lending gear out to those in need (only the ones who I know where they live) because that's just me. I know I offered my hot water unit to people I haven't met but I reckon I'd know a few. At the latest there regular people of this forum like OP who's taken on the task of the Melbourne Cup Weekend get together, I doubt it'd go missing. Either way Adults or not I won't use the "Hire Option" seems wrong for those trying to sell gear imo.

As said before by others RM very generous ofer of the hot water unit. No problem lending stuff to people on the forum as there all great blokes and at the end of the day if something went south I think it would be sorted. Just wouldn't be keen on people I don't know no matter what I d they gave. To many stories of detector shops being ripped off with fake licenses and other I'd. Lot of scumbags around these days.

How's about a free to good home section. I got a wombat that's decided to live under me house , any one wants it its yours.
Ps no overseas postage.

Now that's a top idea :Y: can't see you getting anyone lining up for the wombat though.

I myself hate borrowing things.
When an item no matter what it is goes back,
It is in better condition that when I took it.
Cars, Full tank of fuel and a check over,
Mowers, Full of fuel and washed,
Chainsaws, Oil and fuel full and sharpened,
If I broke it, Fixed or replaced.
simple.
I think they call it respect these days. :D
