Hi,
In the process of building the Walbanker I have taken the opportunity to modify the hopper to a bolt on/off setup. With a funnel attachment for a river sluice. I am totally green when it comes to setting up a sluice, so please review the photos and comment accordingly.

And some interesting little shinny stones
Look foward to the comments.

Hi mate! The silver rocks, are they magnetic? If they look like blobs of solder they could be tin, and you could have a chance of finding a few minerals, so check your rocks and especially the breadboard for any transparent colored or clear gemstones, as well as rocks which could contain sparkly black ores / minerals.

The sluice setup seems alright man, I know the pain of setting one up. Mabey get the depth of the water in a sluice a tad lower so its not as deep and raise the sluice out the water 1/2" - 1" next time ( than what it is in the photos )

If its catching gold, there's no issues :)

If your lucky, the silver blobs could also be mercury almalgam ;)

Photos taken at Nundle just out of town in front of the first flood gate

the shinny stones are mostly clear and the dark ones are black and very shinny

Looks like you've got the sluice set up nicely. If it's catching gold then you're doing something right.

OK IND59,
I am assuming along the Peel some place although I am not familiar with any flood gate other than on the Chaffey Dam. Either way, the black and shiny heavy stuff is most likely carborundum. Nundle area, especially up around Hanging Rock and at the Ponderosa Fossicking Area yields sapphire and zircon. I have some nice blues and the odd green I have picked up both in the Peel and on the higher country.

I use a stonkin' great big river sluice - it's 2200mm long and 285mm wide. Had it going yesterday quite successfully. A couple of points. Water flow: keep an eye on it when you're setting up, when the water forms 'v' ripples along the length of the sluice you're set. Riffles, miners moss or matting: small swirly vortexes should be forming behind the riffles and in the matting. You'll see small particles of sand dancing around and going nowhere when this happens. The angle of the dangle: I keep it at about 15, just enough to clear pebbles and small stones, bigger ones I pick out from time to time. By bigger I mean golf ball sized and above, and only when they're washed clean. One final point: set up the outfall so that tailings clear effectively and don't build up, restricting the water flow. Good luck and catch even more gold dust :)

Hi everyone, just an update on our trip to Nundle. We spent two days digging in the Peel with some good results, we were there in those really hot days we had in November. The heat really slowed us down a bit, we started at 7am on the second day and finished at 12:20p to pack up camp before we cooked lol. We did hit a spot that showed promise, a lot of lite stuff but the section was heavy with large river rocks. Sure to head back on some cooler weather and hit hard with our sluice, fingers crossed ;)

What a nice creek, oh how I wish we had some like around Brisbane to go and pan, oh, there is but it's all locked up. good on ya guys.
