Faulty Nugget Finder Coils ??

Found this little piece on a FB page from a respected trainer within Victorias golden triangle.

Anyone else come across Nugget Finder coils giving false signals.

Seems strange that hes come across a couple in as many weeks .... makes you wonder if some are using them and not realising they may have a faulty coil.

How old is the fb post :| Advantage series coils were the 1st release superseded by the Evolution series from memory, who is the trainer.

Doesn't make sense to me that Rohan would have spent money developing the Evolution to supersede the Advantage and keep producing the Advantage series. From what I've read I'd say it's an old post or possibly fake coils.

Water between the skid plate and coil on an EVO can cause bump sensitivity.
When I bought a EVO 14x9 a couple of years ago I first used it detecting at the head water of a very shallow creek. Later I noticed the coil being bump sensitive. I took it back to the shop I bought it from, the one that use to be in Dunolly Vic. They rang Rohan of Nugget Finder. His first question was is there any water between the skid plate and coil. I responded with most likely as Ive just had it in a shallow creek. I was told that whilst the EVO coils are waterproof they can get bump sensitive when water is between the skid plate and coil.
I popped the skid plate off, dried it off and bump sensitivity was gone.
This was a couple of years ago and I still have the coil and never had a further problem with it, though I havent submerged it in water since.

Not sure if they're still making Advantage coils or not? Some shops still have them but most seem to be larger sizes like 18" up so could be old stock or maybe still made in some sizes?

I don't think too many people would be using a faulty coil without knowing. It's pretty obvious when they're no good but some newcomers mightn't realise I guess?
All coils can give false signals in bad ground or wet/salt ground but a dud coil is past that.
I wonder why he swapped straight over to his GPX - it doesn't say they tried another coil or checked anything?

I've never had a NF coil DOA or one that died but don't doubt it happens. I have known others to send them back but they were used pretty well beforehand & always repaired/replaced. I've been blessed with coils from all manufacturers really. Only had the one bad coil & it was DOA + replaced.

Some "respected" trainers also have coil & other gear "preferences" in place. Just saying....

I bought Mrs M the 12"x8" Evo and she won't use it. She much prefers the original 11" Commander because it a far superior coil. The NF will squark every time the coil is tilted because it picks up its own cable. I bought it so that she could work through the spinifex where it plays up the most. It will find gold as long as you can keep the coil on a fixed plane where there's no interference from the cable. It's been a waste of money, in fact we only have three coils that haven't paid for themselves. The two NF and the 11" Detech. I should have just stuck to Coiltek but you never know until you've spent your hard earned cash.

Yesterdays post and appears to be people with new detectors ...... or new to detecting
Will check and see if further info is on there as my 14x7 Advantage was also pretty ordinary last time it was used ..... assumed it was just wet red clay and couldnt be bothered Ed tweaking unit so just switched back to SDC.

Coils are a specialised electronic instrument....and most people treat them very poorly. That being said, there will always be failures and breakages. Coiltek/NF/Commander...doesn't matter...they can all have a hissy fit.The important point is the after sales service from the various manufacturers and I know from personal experience both coiltek and Nugget finder are both spot on.

I only use 12 evo and Sadie in my opinion they are better then commander coils iv found more with nf then commander but Ive noticed if theres a storm coming when u have a lot of emi around they become hard to use and give off false signals best not go prospecting when storms are in the area ..apart from that I couldnt imagine going prospecting without my evo .

an old prospector had a saying I like...."the best coil is the one you find gold with".... once you get used to a coil and you find some gold with it. it aint going nowhere!

I would NOT use the term "respected" unless warranted ...... there are a few that tout for business that definitely wouldn't fit into the respected category.

No coil preference affiliation it's a BYO detector unless you don't have one in which case he provides a range to try out.

an old prospector had a saying I like...."the best coil is the one you find gold with".... once you get used to a coil and you find some gold with it. it aint going nowhere!

Same usually goes with fishing ....... lure catches fish .... you stick with it.

Teemore it's an industry fact & I've personally got nothing against it. It's not unlike various motor mechanics using & recommending different engine oils really.
There are well respected trainers/tour operators that I know of that put in plugs with attendees for their preference of coil & use the trademarks of the coil manufacturer in their advertising which would indicate they have some type of an agreement with them in place? Like I said it's no real biggy but does happen.

Fake coils have been around since at least 2010.
