IMHO, a bolt or anything else rattling loose is completely unacceptable! A simple dab of loctite at the factory should have been applied to all screws and bolts. Pathetic QC Minelab!

I reckon those fine threads are for metal to metal fastening, so unless there are metal nut inserts embedded in the plastic plate behind, this is the wrong screw for the job. If it's been used into a plastic socket, that would require a coarser screw thread for a reliable fastening, IMHO.

I just got off the phone to a lovely lady at Minelab. She is looking into it.
She said "oh no no no" when I said that QC was being done in Malaysia. "Where did you hear that?" "No, no"
I said, well somethings not right. I have never had a bolt come loose on a Minelab detector before.
Also, they have not corrected the spelling on their website. It is CONTINUOUSLY, not CONTINOUSLY........ you would think a multi million dollar company would care a tad. Once again, QC..lol

All I did was suggest a simple, effective solution to a previously raised/discussed issue.
Never said it was acceptable? But I'm not interested in fanning the flames either.
For the record it hasn't happened on my ~12 month old, well used 6000 so it's not something that happens on all machines. Mine are still secure & tight.
If they do come loose it won't be the first detector (Minelab or other brands) that I've had to re-tighten nuts/bolts/screws on or for that matter the numerous other gear I own with nuts/bolts that requires periodic maintenance/checking.
Acceptable - no.
Worth making a huge song & dance over - no.

Well i had the same problem with our 6000 it rattled from new on our first trip , noticed it when ever it was moved side to side the nachine still worked fine, pulled the speaker cover off and one screw was laying insde there tightend both up and no more rattle thank %$#@@ as was squillion miles from anywhere.
I have had no problems with it since and have found quite a lot of yellow with it, like when i first got my 7000 it takes a bit of time to adapt too and also no two machines are the same my mate bought one as well and he got over one ounce first trip as a beginer.
He tends to have his on the lower settings where we go as he dont like the noisy ground.

Thanks it might help some owners.
You'd think during the manufacturing of these that they'd a least use a lower strength loctite on all bolts and srews to stop this

Oh and word from the Technician was that they did all they could to replicate the switching off, reset problem and could not.
But they also said they could not fault the unit either or get it to play up. So yeah, I guess I will never know.
I do know that parts suppliers change all the time, and electrical components, build techs and other variations within machines makes them technically all unique.

And this is where you get differing items with varying parts. Laptops can be the same & manufacturers cannot understand why customers get so cheesed off.
All consumers want is consistency & keeping every detector the same would ensure this.

As long as they all fall within their specified tolerances then that is the consistency we should expect.

No, he had not pulled it apart. I checked my new one and gave the bolts an extra 1/4 turn to tighten properly. They were not done up fully.

I did hear somebody mention the noisy GPX6000 on videos. I for one turn the sound up when taking a video. I usually have it on its lowest setting and turn the speaker up a bit to hear what's going on. For the the video I turn Bluetooth off and wind the volume up. Of course you are getting it really noisy on the video but that's because it is awfully noisy but normally tamed a bit with the volume control.
