Been lurking around on the site for quite a while, so I figured I'd throw up some pics of my most recent trip down to 7 Mile Diggings near Nanango, QLD.
I built a small rocker box some time ago and figured I'd give it a whirl - 7 Mile is traditionally a dry creek system, but the last few years there's been enough to pan and even sluice at times. The gold at 7 Mile is all fine, flour gold. The gold in the pan is from one rocker box cleanup which is probably 1-1.5 Bunnings green buckets worth of raw dirt. I have another 9 buckets to process here at home of the same which I'll do through my home setup. On the rocker box I run backed miner's moss and a special high/low ripple folded screen which comes from the USA (it's not Jarvie riffle) that is found on grain cleaning machines I used to sell.
Access to the site is pretty rough, but the old Navara makes it okay if you take it slow - slow and steady is still better than walking 1.5kms down to the creek!
Being in QLD we can't use any motors/pumps - my next project is I want to make a hand crank trommel for faster screening.
