dry rot in a mango tree

Most south east asian countries eat mangoes green because if you leave them there to ripen someone else will take them. They make great targets for the air rifle.

Before anyone complains about my hate for mangoes, I was born and bred in NQ. All my school holidays was spent raking up leaves and rotten mangoes so now I can't stand them.

Cheers

There is the biggest mango tree near me that I have ever seen. Not only is it tall but it spreads out about 30 metres or so. It grows on a block of land owned by developers that have not developed the land yet and only get a tractor in once a year to mow.

I will never get a mango off it though as every year before the mangoes ripen there are about a dozen people there harvesting every day.

The funniest sight as all manner of devices are used to get the mangoes. Usually a small net on the end of extension poles right through to a guy I recently saw with full-on climbing gear lol. He had his helmet, ropes, the works, hilarious. I don't know how successful he is because the mangos are at the end of branches.

If they are a bowen or a KP variety you have to watch the sap it does bun and blister some people, you cut it above the first node/knuckle on the stem from the mango it should not sap, always hold the stem facing away from you as the sap can spurt over 2 feet

Not having picked them I don't think I'll ever try after hearing that.
I wouldn't know the different types unless they're marked on the shop shelves. I just eat them. I actually fillet them like a fish, either side of the pip, then chunk them up in a bowl of ice-cream. Bloody delicious on a hot day. So expensive though. :perfect:

No the Mango Puree.. You throw the pip away when all the mango flesh is off it... Mix with condensed milk and freeze...YUM... :drooling:

. I do mine in the sink, in a 4l ice-cream container so the little beggar hasn't a chance to escape... I dropped one the other night and it slid 10' away from me and I had to get the mop out... All over the tiles it slid ...

Thanks LW for putting digger58 straight mate ,wouldn't be good putting a mango seed in a blender it would end in tear's

And a broken blender no doubt lol.

You can't be tpp sure these days as I found out Avocado seeds are healthy to consume. I always tossed them before, well, not tossed, more like the mango seed but worse, they shoot across the room and are then impossible to pick up the little slippery devils.

never thought of that point digger ,people eat all kinds of things these day's ,all those day's of flicking zucchini flower on to the ground so it would not turn the dip water to slime, good money in them now they even grow their own grass to eat and drink these day's :awful: not for this black duck

Well SS, I used to buy dog food from the butcher for practically nothing, but now, things like lamb shanks are gourmet and cost a fortune. In a role reversal some old pensioners that struggle to live are buying dog meat to eat. Different times.
