Nice image isnt it?! I was looking on the internet for deviations in the lapidary machine but i cannot find anything about it. Probably, no one cares about it. But as you know im building one and i just want to know what the overal deviations are from a standard lapidary. The be more exactly what are your machine deviations. As in the last post, i saw a report of a machine. But did you messure that?! What is de base plate deviation, the rod deviation, shaft deviations did you measured that?! I want to, and i know i will not get the 0.01 mm or not get down the 0.01 mm (0,00039 inch). The accuracy is not a problem. But the deviations is a problem!

Please tell & help me!

If some one got a micrometer and can tell me the deviations i would be verry thankfull!

That can vary a lot with what lap / wheel , you have on the machine and how the faceting head is positioned to facet .i guess it's something that has to be worked around to best of ability to counteract the runout . If testing , use a long piece of rough as in a emerald cut . That will show up these problems more than one desires , especially if it's an inch or longer .
 
Ok, but that arent measurements to see the actual deviations. I'f seen many lapidaries but there is so litle information about deviations of the machine. I saw one website meassuring the runout of the spindle and exactly what i suspected... This is what i have read:

I hope your measurements are better than the others Ive been hearing from. Collectively the average quill runout is 0.006, which is a HUGE amount. I expect the quill runout to be under 0.001 in order to cut to depth with any accuracy.

That means the machine he tested had a run out of 0.006 = 0,1524 mm and the avarage run out should be (hopefully) 0.001" = 0,0254 mm. So the overal deviation of a normal lapidary can go over the 0.1mm. Thats no good! The machine he tested is certainly not build that good. Mmm these are interesting numbers. My goal of my machine is to get under the 0.05 mm in total. Hopefully some parts arive soon and ill should also the run out of my rotating axis. Im curious what the run out wil be!

Kingsolomon Can you test your run out from your spindle with a micrometer?!

Please, I also ask you to test your run out with a micrometer!
