Doh, a lot around now, they will keep churning them out though. A lot of people are gonna get burned. Do these things even detect metal at all???? Just curious.

from Minelab web-site, so I guess they have been tested to a degree for them to make these observations.

"HOW ARE COPIES MADE?

Counterfeit copies are often made in China. They can vary in appearance and quality. In some cases, criminal counterfeiters take a cheap detector and brand it with a Minelab product name. These are easily identifiable as poor copies to people familiar with Minelab product. Recent counterfeits are more difficult to identify as cosmetically they look very similar to genuine Minelab products - these are most likely to mislead our customers.

BUYER BEWARE: Genuine Minelab metal detectors are only made by Minelab in Australia and by Plexus Corp, USA in their Malaysian facility. Thats it, nowhere else!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH COUNTERFEIT PRODUCT?

It CANNOT deliver the high performance of genuine Minelab product. People waste precious time and money with inferior product, missing valuable targets.

It CANNOT provide the durability and reliability of genuine Minelab product. People realise they are victims when they experience failures of counterfeit product in the field.

It DOES NOT contain approved and tested high performance Minelab precision componentry and software.

It DOES NOT have ANY level of Warranty or Service Repair support.

The added value and reassurance you gain from purchasing a genuine Minelab product includes the Minelab product warranty along with ongoing support in getting the best performance from your detector. You can read more about the support Minelab offers in our Customer Care Charter.

I can't find where I read it now but I did read somewhere that these things do actually work but when pulled apart are more in keeping with the workings of a cheap VLF detector & definitely nothing like a PI.

Take a look at his feedback. What a joke, only good feedback was from "buyers" with low transaction counts - probably makes them up to increase his feedback score.

One negative feedback:

Manufacturer confirmed the detector is a counterfeit.Stay away from this seller! satla8286 ( 132) 11-Aug-13 02:40

Any sellers in Australia should be busted as it is illegal to sell fake merchandise here. Cops rarely crack down on it though.

I even happily pay $20 for a pair of Aussie or Yank made socks as they do last. The very last time I bought Chinese made ones they came brand new with holes already in them.

It always amazes me how we send them top quality Aussie iron and other raw materials and we buy it back as......junk ready for landfill.

I have listed once on ebay a watch that a friend gave which was a replica. I have advertised it as a replica and it was no reserve auction starting with 99 cents. I was not missleading anyone and yet the item was removed within few hours by ebay. You cant sell copies of brand products on ebay. That is their policy. If we all report these as a suspected fakes they will hopefuly remove it and discourage this kind of behaivour.

Yes yes! - i despise those trashy plastic trinkets that you get in xmas bonbons, and show babags .... all derived from precious oil, also not to mention the energy expended in manufacturing them. They delight for seconds and then are discarded

Enjoy this prophectic aussie poem http://www.middlemiss.org/lit/authors/denniscj/glugs/stoneg.html I've loved it since a child but its message didn't register with me until well into adulthood - enjoy

This 1 came back with the following serial number.. "B8002654"
Obviously a fake I almost didn't need to waste my time checking the text service

Funnilly minelab just phoned.me asking about this serial I sent through their text check.service, and he verified it as a genuine serial sold.tthrough an.Australian dealer in 2010

it could have been bought by a chinese company to copy it and the serial number

there could be 500 units with that S/N

True, same goes for any other 5000 being sold out there. I guess we only.buy ones that have obviously been used and come with a few extras like covers and harnesses

No

if you're going to buy second hand , you buy one that has a receipt with it so you can ring up the store where they bought it to be told by the store ;

"yes , i know the machine , and that guy comes in here all the time and he mentioned he was selling it because he only found $ 50 worth of gold in 500 hours of looking and doesnt feel confident that he is cut out for the hobby especially with his last knee operation not working out well "

you just have to keep your BS detector turned on and be discerning.

This guy is really getting on my nerves now.
He keeps cropping up with several user id's Namely.... Bluegrace111213,goldpicker88,mindy1ty and now an endlessly long one that i'm not even going to contemplate typing out. For some dumb reason,he seems to think that getting himself feeback from China helps his cause :)
I have now had about a dozen of his repeated listings removed and i think one of the id's listed above is now banned.
Anyhow, if anyone here is remotely concerned, i ask that you check out this link, login and report the listing...

No need to ask me how i know or if i'm sure about this, i've been watching this guy for months. I know him so well, even his photography skills give the game away!

And........ you just never know who's watching your efforts. Last week i recieved a nice new 10.5" coil for my X-Terra 705 from the manager at minelab USA, with a little card signed by all the staff, thanking me for helping to combat counterfeit units :D :D :D Good karma i say.
Thanks in advance.
Btw, while you are there checking that unit out, have a look for the unit currently listed from New Zealand.... Yip, another fake and i can bet you $50 this guy was formerly calling himself rainbowsky2013 so feel free to tackle that one too. :D

Now... Lets go minelabbing.

wow

i have spent / wasted many hours getting counterfeit guys shut down here and in the USA

i even sent details to the FBI counterfeit IP theft unit on a few of them

Out of 20 plus instances all i got was one email from minelab here saying " thanks mate"

wish i had a nice new 18" coil for my brand new GPX5000 i brought a few months ago

lol

Not much anyone can do Greg, once the Chinese copy something it's ummm well copied. The new models will probably take about a month to copy, it's a never ending cycle. Buyer beware.

Check out Gumtree. Bloke in Adelaide is advertising a 5K for $495. At least has the decency to call it a replica. Must've been one of the many that've been taken to the cleaners by the shonks.
Always a lesson in 'you get what you pay for'.

Gumtree really has been a minefield for buying both 2nd hand and new detectors of late. I'd be skeptical about anyone selling minelab detectors, teknetics and some whites detectors, unless they had full receipts of purchase and serial numbers.
