U are right and the Cloncurry Rd to Isa even worst . But if u leave u CB on 40 the escort veilckle sends out plenty of warnings . Alot of ppeople up tnere have 2 radios . One on 40 at all times and one to talk to others while on the road

Fred yep spot on and on 40 all the time. In most cases I usually travel alone and if with regular mates we all use Icoms and can set to monitor forty but partner radios so we can still talk to each other privately .................. handy feature but as far as I know has to be icom to icom

Gem in I apart from the safety aspect I would love to know how much my radio has saved me over the years both in dollars and licences So certainly a worthy piece of kit to have if not a must have

Yes mate I got to keep the gold from the training lesion. I was using a Mono coil mate but JP was using a new demo coil that will be released on the 7th next month. We both swang over the same nugget both of us using a 5000 but he had the new demo coil I had a mono and the difference was huge, could only just hear it with my detector/coil and it really stood out with the new coil so fair to say I'll be putting a deposit on the new coil before I leave.

Wayno what coil was it ? May have it or may want it Any more luck on the Yella side ?

Does anyone know of any camping spots close to Blair Athol state forest? I know most prospectors stay in Clermont and drive out to detect during a day. But I want to get away from the town's and camp in quiet places. I know I can't camp in the state forest but is there any camping on properties close to the state forest? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Back in 2018 I stayed on a private mining lease for $20 a day.

Very basic set up with only a drop toilet,but you save on fuel not driving from the caravan park each day.

Sorry for dropping in on your conversation previously about some where to camp out and maybe swing the detector.
I am newly retired and dont really want to sit around a caravan park, but keen on some quiet time with a bit of fossicking!

So I was hoping you could Also let me in on the private mining lease information or contacts.

As I am new to the sport of detecting so its more for me about just getting away and relaxing in the bush!

I do understand if this is your favourite location and dont want to let it out! As not wanting loads of people out and distributing the owners!

There are lots of strange things that happen in Qld. Camping being banned in virtually all State Forests is just one of those things. Inability to fossick in all State Forests as per most other states is another.

It is not any sort of secret BigDog and Shep. there is a guy who has a mining lease within Blair Athol State Forest in the Birimgan East GPA section and he runs a business by allowing prospectors to camp and detect on his lease. The contact name is Wolf and his phone number is advertised in every issue of Australian Gold Gem and Treasure magazine in the Classifieds section. I can't put the hone number up here as they are not permitted in open posts unless a Moderator thinks it might a public service to do so?
