Hope that link works.

Great little article, nice to see coin popping put in a good light to the public. Better to dig up history and share it vs leaving it in the ground. :)

Monty did you just target coins?

Nice finds well done..

Yes I was specifically targeting coins in this area. I did pick up the usual other bits of trash - ring pulls, bottle top lids, lead, rusty bolts etc.

It was quite a Low Trash area to cover, so that was quite pleasing.

Trouble is now that I have the CTX (bulk of the coins were found with the ML Exterra 705), it is seeking targets that are buried
a lot deeper (18cm plus) and still shows the correct target signal for pre-decimal coins. Not really keen to dig that deep, but I might
try a couple of targets just to see the result.

Same spot yesterday the CTX had target identified at 18cm, so I dug it. Result was a 1 cent coin that was 20cm down! I know the depth
because the screwdriver that I use is that long, excluding the handle part.

Cool, you could be missing out on some jewelry though. This is why I asked. My expectation is that most coins are found
around the 6 or 7 inch mark in most cases. Because we are a young country unless the soil was topped up you will find
most coins are between 6" to 8" max in lawn related areas (not tot lots).

The deepest coin I found was half a cent at around 7" with the CZ.

I have found pennies and the like at around 4".

If an area had an inch or 2 or 3 of top soil added then the depth is increased which is obvious.

In the old days people would attend church with horse and carriage and getting on and off horse carriages brooches and
other jewelry have been lost in which I have found in similar sites. This is what I have experienced anyway.

Thanks for sharing and good luck on any more future hunts.
