Is that the one on the yella river (havn't watched the vid yet).
I remember when it first filled they had earth quakes around abouts it because of the weight of the captured water pushing down on the earths mantle.

Another myth Silver. Like the one that claimed that volume of water held above sea level had slowed the rotation of the earth

Are you sure about that, mate? Reservoirs and hydro dams have been known to precipitate earthquakes, when the pressure of the water forces fluid deep into existing faults, where it acts as a lubricant and things can start to move.

You can read all about the phenomenon here (from a reliable, local source):

I know from when I was in Alexandra NZ I stayed with friends and the word from them was people were worried about the dam on Clutha,in so much earthquakes, and landslides and pressure of water.
There was siren in the town to let them know when to get the hell out of there.

I have read that they have unstable sides on the gorges behind the 3 gorges dam in China.

Grubstake you seem to be right, & I retract that part of my comment. After more research it seems the seismicity of the area is reported as having increased.

Not good karma engaging in such cruelty.

Hopefully they change their ways in CN , there is actually a very big animal rights movement there these days and dog ownership is very popular , daigous have even been sending dog food to CN as well as baby formula.

They say when a butterfly flaps its wings in the Amazon it can trigger an earthquake in Brazil ...well who knows what effect all those sad dogs in China will have for 3 gorges dam

I couldn't even imagine eating man's best friend. Looking into those caring, loving eyes tail wagging from the neck to the tip. Smiling happy to see you, wanting a pat on the head saying ok man the security of this place is in you're hands now I'm going for a well earned nap after I get some of your dinner.
Bloody disgusting cruel ritual.
Jaros :argh:

Is the dam really warping or is the movement overstated ? I don't know what to believe these days. I wonder if they get earth quakes there :argh:
