Was not really noticeable. Just tires wearing a bit crooked.
I get a bit fussy then start tracking down " Issues "
Besides, It's a 2/97 90 Series 5spd manual ADR 36/00 Prado.
340,000 Klicks and the first major work in 2 1/2 years of
owning it.
Wasn't really dangerous if that is what you are eluding to.
Just general wear and tear.
All done with expensive brand name parts. Not cheap crap.
Next in line valve stem seals, Heavier clutch, A few more
nice and expensive Mods.

Have now gone over all the suspension bush's etc with a 4 foot pry bar.
Rest of it is still tight as. :0 :)
The front rubbers had perished on the inside and not a lot was visible
until you put pressure on them.
Replaced with nolethane.
The rear uni was not too bad. But I did it to stop myself from worrying.
It was not the source of the problem.
Funny that the vehicle still drove straight and true with no dragging.
And was still tight and tidy on the road.

Left work a few years back, 20km drive, mostly 100kph, Friday night, got home, decided to go get a pizza for tea.

Drove 2kms to the pizza joint (50kph), got the pizza, got back in the car and did a reverse left hand turn out of the parking space.......

BANG - front end drops down on the driver side. Get out to find the wheel at about 45 degrees to vertical. It going nowhere.....

Had to call a tow truck to get the car home and left till Saturday morning to find the lower wishbone had torn off the pin it swivels on. Chassis side was ok, so off to the wrecker for another part and got the car back on the road for Monday morning, great. If memory serves it cost me $75 for the tow truck and $50 for the part, but this was the late 1980s.

The absolute scary part was that I'm so glad it happened when it did and not 15 minutes earlier when I was doing a 100 on the way home.

Vt Commmodor. Running on 5 cylinders. Missing on number 6.... Checked compressions all good. Changed coil packs still no good. Changed HT leads and plugs still no good. 6 new injectors and fuel rail. Still missing. Checked valve springs, were ok. Checked fault codes, fault in egr valve. WD40 Freed pintle valve up, fault code gone, still missing. Sick to death of damn car. Sent car to a mate. Mate spent 7 days on car plus another ecu that blew up. Fixed short on number 6 injector loom.
Drove car home and for another 400 kays wasn't shifting gears properly and engine light came on a few times. Then started missing on number 6 again !
Took back to mate. Short found to be further down the loom he thinks it's now fixed. Mate charged me $330 all up bugger all considering the headaches he has gone through.
To be continued... I hope not !

I think horses are looking like an option.

I had a control arm break and pull out the driveshaft (fwd car) while doing 100 on a two lane freeway off ramp in Melbourne.
I left about a 20meter gouge in the road that was visible for years afterwards.

It took two hours to get a towtruck, there was no pushing it. After 90 minutes police arrived and blocked the lane.

Pulled out of Tammin Service Station about 4am on our way home from the goldfields.
1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th gear stamped the clutch for 5th and didn't happen.
Then discovered I couldn't change down.
Drove the 3+ hours home using the old "engine rev gear changes" without a clutch.
Someone was looking down that trip because we made it home. Having to change down to second gear at the lights hoping they would change to green before having to stop completely.

Had a 1988 Hilux 4x4.
Was given too me for a swap and I was going to part it out.
No rust at all except for a little bit in the back tub.
Was not going to put up with a 1600 motor so I did
a conversion.
VS v6 bt1 Commodore plus 4l60e auto went in.
Had a 120 litre gas bottle in the back so added in an lpg vapor
direct injection kit as well.
Got pulled up quite a few times as the coppers could not work out
why I could sit on the speed limit going up hill. LOL
Deadly in the wet.
anyway,
Went on a small job a few hundred k's away and stopped at my mates place
for a while.
Hopped in and started the long trip home in the dark.

It started to cough and splutter about 10 minutes into the trip. Uh Oh.
Thought about stopping and doing a full reset but that gut feeling said not to.
Lost top gear so limped on home.

After tearing out almost what was left of my hair at the time, Replacing
solenoids in the Auto, Swapping Standard computers, and sensors, Gave
up and replaced the whole entire engine management system including wiring from
a vt Commodore.

Fault codes were saying that two sensors were not functional on the motor plus 2
solenoids in the auto.

Went like the clappers after I had reprogrammed the computer.

A month later I got curios.
At the back of the motor there is a large "Junction " where all the looms meet.
Previous " repair " at some stage in it's previous life as a cop car left a sharp
solder dag on a 12v supply rail to the injectors that rubbed through into the
sensor 5v rail.

That old Hilux served me well. Went all over the bottom eastern part of Australia
and as far as Tuena a few times.
Brilliant on lpg, Shocking on petrol. I still have it stored away.

I can remember when I owned a red MGB back in the dark ages of my early twenties...
Needed a new set of tyres, so off to the nearest Beaurepairs for fresh rubber.
Now as you may know the chrome spoked rims back then had centre knock off wing nuts that you belted off and on with a brass mallet.
Well some right wingnut didnt do up the RHF wheelnut tight enough, so on my way home, as I crossed over the crown of a busy intersection and the weight came off the front end, the right front wheel separated from the hub and took off down the road as I pulled to a grinding halt, gouging up the bitumen.
Well, that lovely chrome spoked wheel continued on, narrowly missing the oncoming traffic and jumping the curb, eventually coming to rest through the smashed shopfront window of the local ladies hairdressers :8 :poop:
Thank crikey for insurance......
Needless to say, the twit that left the wheel loose was moved on....

I had a mitsi sigma back in the 80's
Blew a head gasket near nowra after driving from Sydney.
Cost a small fortune to get it trucked home
Cost 1200 for a second hand motor from dubbo
cost -cant remember how much to get the motor fitted and working

Found out two weeks later the mitsi dealers 5 minutes away were selling brand new motors for 900 and 200 hundred to install
Idiot :awful:

Back fuel tank did not engage when needed due to going through a flooded road . Back tank said full but did not pump into the front main tank . Lucky for road side service . Smacking nuggets finally over here?.

Okay

Who would have guessed this one under 2 minutes?

I got a new tire on one rim , had it balanced and started driving home , every time I got over 40 ks there was vibration in that wheel so I thought he must have knocked off one of the balancing weights and I drove back , he balanced it as best he could , he stuffed around for a bit but swore it was okay , drove up the road and its still vibrating so I went back again to find he was closed for the day.

I took it to another tire shop the next day and he couldnt get it to balance , he said the tire must be faulty and he pulled it off the rim to find there was 1 - 2 litres of water inside the tire.

The A hole at the first tire shop hadnt drained the compressor tank and he was spitting peoples tyres full of water which was causing the vibration.

Sun of beach !
