Caravanning in the GT this week. Left our kitchen knife at home. Looking to get an inexpensive replacement, We tried a Woolies in Bendigo but they had none among all the other kitchen stuff.
Went into two nearby op shops and they had none either. Spoke to one of the managers at one and was told they do not sell them for safety reasons!!!!
I am not sure the Qld knife laws are an isolated thing.
it looks a lot like you can still buy them in Big W

I agree, you can message sellers direct to bypass these issues, I’d guess eBay uses AI to determine
State laws, I had to get staff at the self serve registers at Bunnings today to allow me to buy stabiliser after scanning pool salt? Apparently dangerous chemicals.
Yep, increasingly we have to provide end user statements.

Hey Crew,
Got a phone call from the Police Ministers office today.
Understandably they are very busy with Election issues and lead-up to Saturday and apologized for the delay in getting back to me.

Basically they were just saying 'thanks for the feed back, we would love to talk more about it if we get re-elected.'
The extremely polite staffer of Marks who said that QPS were aware of this type of issue and the team were looking at perhaps some kind of awareness campaign across the country, not just QLD.

Go into one of the Prospecting supply shops... Ask for a 'Ground Digger'. Cant call them Picks anymore... ... They have them behind the counter away from prying eyes...

Along with my Machete that is in the rear of the 4x4... Sorry Officer buy thats part of my fossicking Kit... Its used to slash the tall grass on the GPA that council is suppose to mow... Don't keep these Items inside the cabin of your car.. You will be done... But if they are in the boot, in rear drawers , MUST be NOT with-in easy reach... And have a nice attitude and this has worked for me every time..

LW....

a member of Lapidary club in Brisbane and one of the things I like doing is fossicking for Gems and certain rock types like petrified wood in outback Queensland only been doing it for the last couple years so I decided that I’ll get small little miners prospecting pick so I looked on E Bay. I found one to buy

It said on eBay due to the restrictions of sale of knives in Queensland this item is not for purchase in your location please see the Queensland Police website for more information

Well I am in my mid fifty’s no criminal records I can’t believe this a miners prospecting pick is considered as weapon well driving a car is weapon too kill peoples every day on our roads so is a steak knife so is a baseball bat in which many people would have under there beds with this youth crime going on to protect themselves

Just wandering how many other items are not actual knifes are caught up in this band in Queensland’s
That's one shop! You can still buy "Hunting" machetes on eBay - and everywhere else. Earlier this year I bought a nice Eastwing pick from another online market (I won't plug it) and it arrived 4 days later (from the US) at half the price I can buy it from either of the national tradies supply places (which I won't plug) and a quarter of the price I can get if from the main national hardware chain (which has a nice price on a quality Swedish mini mattock). Funnily enough - I can buy crossbows online in QLD and get them shipped to my place, where I'd get arrested for possessing them. It's been a few years since you could buy a knife in a supermarket without showing proof of age - so I don't think "they" are coming for our picks 🤣
Those nasty looking but oh-so-useful prospectors knives (popular with stabbers in the UK) are usually kept out of sight in shops - but you're better off making one from a good concretor's trowel (angle grinder required). Better steel, offset handle to save your knuckles - and cheaper! Cheers
