If the camera isn't showing much distance, its worth checking out DIY or ebay for IR led arrays. Its something which can be made or bought quite easily to brighten the view and distance. If you want to turn an any everyday spotlight or other lights into IR, cut out the non developed black sections from old film negative strips / rolls and make a filter to attach to a light. It will be just the same, invisible at night to naked eye unless a camera is used. You may need up to 3 layers of black negative film to hide the light from naked eye efficiently.
