Hello to everyone,
I am very keen to prospect around Cairns and greater region for gold or gem stones but I am mostly interested in trying a beach box for flour gold in the Baron River or the beaches between Cairns and Port Douglas. There are really large deposits of black sand that can be seen in the banks of the Barron, being eroded by the water flow, and I would like to see if they did indeed contain traces of fine gold? Has anyone checked before? Also, can anyone tell me if the sand plant, "Northern Sands", on the Cook Highway between Machans Beach and Holloways Beach has ever had or found traces of gold? Just seems to like a logical place to look considering the rivers history.
Another question I hope someone might be able to help me with is, Was there ever a "GOLD STAMP" on or near the road between Cairns and Mareeba? If so where was it and how long was it used for.
Thanks for your time and knowledge everyone
