Check out what shows are on at South Bank, some good eateries around West End which is round the corner, Tamborine and the creeks are worth while but you'll need a QLD fossicking license to be on the safe side if you start checking the creeks, most likely be ok for a day trip though. Eumundi markets aren't bad for a day on the weekend, not sure what day they operate though.

GC... take it or leave it, nice beaches though, Burleigh and Currumbin have good local eateries.

The route from the Gold Coast through the Numinbah valley to Murwillumbah is lovely for a drive with the volcanic plugs and Mt Warning, stuff in the creeks and banks around Numinbah, the Rainforest Cafe at the bottom of Mt Warning has awesome food and snacks, The Persian Cake is to die for and the coffee really good! The bush walks around the base of Mt Warning are lovely, but to hike the Mt you need an early start.

Then there is N Straddie, ferry trip and great bush walks, Whale watching from the headland at this time of year, they come in pretty close. No need for 4x4.

Hopefully that helps

Seriously Brisbane is booming. There is construction everywhere. We just spent two weeks in Brisbane in Ascot near Doomben racecourse. Its a nice and there are with lots of eateries in Racecourse road.
Had tea at the Brekky creek a couple of times in the Spanish garden. Its hit and miss with one good steak and one not so.
There are a plethora of bypasses and tunnels and roads everywhere and you really need your wits about you. If your out near the airport do as others have said, head north to the sunshine coast or glass mountains and etc.
We were there working so only saw what we could at night and en route to work.
Have fun

GT :)

Brissy airport is right along side the freeway ( inner Northside )

As mentioned you can head straight up to the Sunshine Coast

Noosa is a big touristy spot with plenty of beach .

Having said that, and you HAVE to stay there, I guess you could do worse than go to Mt Coot-tha for the view and coffee, have a stroll around Southbank, and as earlier suggested get mugged in Fortitude Valley.

If you have a spare day, a drive up to the Sunshine Coast hinterland town of Monteville and a visit to Australia Zoo is also good value.

So Fortitude Valley is no good at night. What about during the day because it now turns out that is the area I am staying
