I use these. They are great.

Keens hiking boots. They have absolutely no metal in them and they have tenacious grip in rocky country.

They are great for climbing but don't handle rock slides too well. You know, where you slide the rocks away with your boots  It wears out the side stitching causing the fine dust to collect outside the gortex layer. It becomes quite uncomfortable after a while so I find it better to apply a Sikaflex urethane rubber bumper to both sides before they wear out.

I had a pair fall apart on me(I bought 2 pair when Rays outdoors were closing in Cairns) but the second pair seem to be ok. I'll go back to the leather work boots when they fail.

I wear Steelcaps. I simply adjust my swing and gait to match.
Must admit, I have to really slow down with the 15" coil on the 4500. :D

Rum Jungle lace-up boots. Very light and comfortable. Under $100.00 at local camping store. They have metal eyelets, but because I discriminate ferrous, that's not a problem.

Hi folks,

My brother and I are visiting the Solomon Islands in May this year and our local guide Stanley has very politely asked if I could get him a pair or boots like the ones pictured below which belong to one of his friends.

After discovering that Stanley does most of his tours barefoot (including 3 day jungle treks across the island) I couldn't really say no.

The problem is I am having trouble finding a new pair. They look to be old Australian army issue high combat boots based on the sole pattern, but I've tried a couple of local disposals places without any luck.

So if anybody knows what they are and/or has an idea where I might find a pair, please give me a shout.

Cheers,
JD

7.62 marksman might be your go to man regarding sourcing a pair ! :perfect:
You will probably make him a very happy man especially if he is currently going barefoot :N:

I have a pair here mate what size you need

Thanks mate.

He tells me he is a 42EU which seems to translate to 8UK or 9US.

Do you know who makes them? I recall Redback were supplying them to the army for a while and everybody hated their boots, I don't want to give him something that's going to hurt his feet on long hikes.
