This is the first year that I will seriously try the above.
I realise that if you are not wearing Headphones/Buds... you are most likely walking over gold you have missed.

However even with volume limiters I do not want loud unexpected signals to affect my ears and worsen my Tinnitus, so for the last 10 to 15 years have used speakers on one or both shoulders either wired or Blue tooth.

Am wondering with the Avantree below, does the unit flop around your shoulders when bending down to find a signal?

Any thought on best use.

Thanks
Peter

I have no experience with the unit you have listed above however what I have found having tried at my expense many Bluetooth / Aptx transmit / receiver modules there is a perceivable lag.

I'm using these units with my 5K and I can't pick any perceivable lag with these. My only criticism is the 5 hr battery. I worked around this by purchasing 2 sets and swopping them out when they go flat.

I run a booster and twin speakers mounted on my shoulders and the setup has been trouble free.

Peter, I first bought a cheaper waterproof brand like this and it was great to wear however the latency let it down. Then I bought the Avantree speaker and it fits snugly on your shoulders and you tend to forget its there. It never moves unless you get to hang upside down.

I beleive that Krissy from Outback Gold Fever uses one simillar to this but I can't find what one it is. Krissy seems to like it.

I've been using them for a couple of years and they are excellent. I have used an external speaker on the 4500 for many years and still do but it's hard wired. The horse collar stays on well and is not a problem. I started off tying it to the top of my backpack with some stocking because I thought it might slip off, but don't bother any more.

As an aside, one problem I had was the sound from the headset suddenly went very faint. It was a bit random, stayed like that for days or hours... worked fine on speaker so I thought the headset was stuffed. In frustration I even prized them apart with my pocket knife one day when it happened, to check that the switch between earbuds and speaker hadn't broken. Next season I bought a new set of avantrees and same thing. Finally found that it also happened with the Minelab wireless headset (yep I know I should have tried that first but I hate covered headphones).

I had been sent a new 6000 box under warranty and spoke to Brendan at Minelab about it to see if it was a common problem and maybe I could fix it out bush. He hadn't come across the problem before, but explained the wireless module is in the handpiece, and totally seperate to the speaker which is in the box. It suddenly came good again so I persevered with it till the end of the season. I sent it back recently and it turned out there was a dry solder joint in the handpiece which Minelab fixed and crossed fingers it will be fine for this season.

Hi Peter, l,ve been using the Avantree low latency shoulder speakers (horseshoe) for about a year now, with my GPX6000. I find them very good, I hear the smallest break in the threshold and am constantly amazed just how small a piece of gold the GPX will find and of course the Avantree will signal on. The only slight down side is when kneeling to run the scoop over the coil some feed back is evident if one approaches to close. For very small pieces of gold in the scoop, and of course a small signal, I tend to use the ear buds when running the scoop over the coil, this works very well. John.
