Looking though some Google images, I saw some truly amazing pictures of the natural geology around our great country.
So I thought I'd start a thread for members to share their pictures of the geology that has blown them away and taken a photo of it.
Let's make it interesting though - because I'm sure some people will have lots of pics! So it has to be your most favourite one - and from your home state.
Let's share some awesome pics of our amazing country for everyone to see.

I'll kick it off with this one. Where else can you find a limestone mattress tossed down over a hill?? Waurn Ponds, Victoria.

Oh man, too many photographs to post... Here's a couple of random things (just searched my photo collection for 'rocks' to get me started) I think are amazing that I've seen over the years:

Granite intruding metamorphosed basalt on May Downs station, Mount Isa. Don't think this location is far from where the awesome tourmalines come from.

Basalt volcanic vent / eruption point at Devils Kitchen out the back of Ballarat:

Diprotodon tracks in a lakebed out Western Vic (there's a cast of these on display in Museum Victoria now), something between 60-110 thousand years old.

Clayey beds in metasedimentary rocks selectively metamorphosing into chunky andalusite crystals south of Cloncurry.

Some great pics Guessologist. And although I have a soft spot for Mt Isa, the Diprotodon tracks wins it for me! Amazing! For anyone who doesn't know what that is, here's a link to show you. https://australianmuseum.net.au/image/diprotodon-reconstruction

:) And I knew picking just your favourite one would be tricky!

Cheers,
Megsy
Yep, Isa is just great country. Only spent a year there and I'm hanging to get back. The geology is just mind blowing as well, just ridiculous things have happened to the rocks up there, makes Victorian rocks look like the mud pile it is.

These pic's are near Eden.

These three pic's are of the same spot near Tibooburra from a trip I did with a mate 3 years ago, just different distance to show the height of the wash layers, even where the first pic was taken it's very elevated compared to the surrounding areas.
Magic place and would love to get back there one day.

Great shots guys! OzzieAu, love it, love it, love it. My favourite camping spot is also on the Murray River - it's magic. Love that golden afternoon sunlight. Great pic!

And PP - wow! That first shot is amazing! And that deep, deep red makes a stark contrast to the other colours for great photos. Terrific choice!

Keep them coming! :)

Well this opened a can of worms. I went looking for old photos and found thousands of unwanted old images.

I started to delete them but gave up when I'd done more than 6000 and there were many years more to go. I got back to the task in hand and found a photo of one of our favorite spots on the cliffs of the west coast.

A swim in the angry waters off these cliffs would definitely be a one way trip.

These basalt pillars on the southern coast of WA are a spectacular sight as well.

The walk down the beach can be a bit of a challenge too :)

Terrific pics Moneybox! Sorry about opening the can of worms though... :argh:

That one in front of you looks painted black! (Reminds me of a song...) :D

When they go black that's a sign that you shouldn't be there. That's when they are wet so it means a big wave has been there in the last little while. You don't fall in in these spots and come out again looking too good so it was a quick look and then out of there.... ;)

Ps: Megsy, that person is a little broad across the girth to be me. It's Gary my good friend from VIC :)

Oops! Sorry about the mistaken identity, mate! So you told him to stand where the big waves are to take his pic?? Did you tell him that after the pic? lol
