I was first seen in 1953 in Australia, what am I

My working life was a short twelve years but I still survive in numbers today

Most on this forum would have one of me or at least seen me.

I came about because of a competition.

Although I only lasted twelve years in Oz, I lasted seventeen years in the UK.

I needed to be reworked at one stage as I was starting to wear.

My designer was born in Nottingham England and received an OBE in 1953

It's got to be some sort of monetary note or coin. 1953 predates decimal currency in Australia but 12 to 13 years later (1966) we went to dollars. Hence why it was phased out here. The poms kept it on a bit longer. Surely not a polymer note that long ago?

Ward69, you are correct. The design was unique for its time as Liz was not wearing a crown. It featured on Australian coins from 1953 to 1965, then decimal currency was introduced.
The die continues to be used at the Royal Mint in the UK, but only for uncirculated coins.

Over to you.

Thanks Manpa. Great one. Tested me.
But will hand ball over Archimedes. It was his thinking that lead me to coins

All yours Archimedes

Thanks Ward, Very generous.

Here is one that will perhaps prove to be controversial and indicate how times have changed. When I was in year 9 at school (mid 70's) our geography teacher gave us a task to find the names of Australian towns based on the clues he gave.

So what town am I based on this clue "Uncle Remus takes a walk?

This going to be fun. So many ideas

Walkabout creak

No mate. And I cant improve on the clues as it was the only one we got for that town. There was about 39 in the task from memory. Another one was "one man short to take the pitch".

Get em both for a bonus point.
