Andrew Fisher, defeated him.

Fisher was born in the Ayrshire mining village of Crosshouse. His father had been a union activist, and at seventeen Fisher was made secretary of the Crosshouse branch of the Ayrshire Miners Union. In 1881 he was sacked from his job for participating in Keir Hardies ten-week miners strike, and 1885 was placed on an employers blacklist. A short while later, he and his brother emigrated to Queensland. Fisher found work in the mines near Gympie, and became involved in community organisations, including becoming branch president of the local Amalgamated Miners Association; in 1890 he was again fired for leading a strike.

Well that's my guess.

Cheers

Doug
