I was known by two names and I was a police killer In WA in the 19th century
 
This Pom migrated to Oz in 1911 and joined Permanent Military Force the next year. Started as a sarge and finished as a honorary Lt Col. in 1949. Was considered a courageous leader of men. His work had a great influence on the area shown in my avatar. (apols if he has been done before).

Who am I

I was Rhodes scholar, won a Kings Polar medal and I fought in the Battle of the Somme. Born in the later part of the 19th century.
 
Good work Magilla and well googled.
I have followed the Madigan line across the Simpson and stayed at several of his camps. The height of the dunes around camp 15 are amazing and to think they did it on Camels !!! Geez. They also broadcast from the desert of a night. They had a tough time of it in 1939. They left from Andado station where I have also visited. Great story.
