My internet has been down on and off since say 0800-1200 today has anyone else had the problem.

Those wretched boxes do not like heavy rain. This was one in my street a couple of months back, after a winter deluge:

It's not what you'd call a hi-tech fix! Multiply that by the number of techos needed to run around with jerry cans, topping up gensets 3-4 times a day wherever there's heavy rain... The fibre to the home NBN upgrades can't come too soon, IMHO.
