I have detected that exact area about two years ago and you couldn't tell I'd ever been there. And there was certainly no media coverage on television or in the papers about my detecting that spot in any format whatsoever. What has happened is outrageous and needs to be clarified within those same forms of media with the same amount of media coverage to allow normal people to understand fully that this is the work of individuals that do not represent the greater community of detectorists and that the people mentioned in the media in no way have any connections to the rest of Australia's respected detectorists and our indisputably perfect ethos of detecting standards. And that we as a community distance ourselves from those unremarkable persons that have performed the most heinous detecting act possible......one of causing damage to public property.

Sounds like a greeny did it and now pointing his finger at us poor soul's

YEH, it does seem too blatant -obvious. also once you have dug a big hole like those, very hard to cover them up. that ground would have been done over anyway with an etrac etc and proper plug technique I reckon. seem people do ovals ,parks . :(

:D :D :D :D or an ace 250 .

Perhaps we , as a forum ,could approach the council and express our concerns about
this situation and assure said council that we will report any person that a member notices involved
in such a practice. it is important that this debacle does not become another opportunity to brand all
detectorists in this manner.

I posted in the other thread about this , the guy was probably intentionally going for the brass fittings to sell for scrap and probably "found" the detector he was using if he was even using a detector.

or stole the detector brass is not worth that much must be a junky trying to get a fix *******s :)

.....or maybe the council used a detector in the first place to locate the fittings for replacement, then thought it was a good opportunity to make a cover story to ward away detectorists?? ;)
