Hello Everyone,

I would like to hear some ancestry and background if you guys would like to share.
Australia it is still a "new country" and plenty of migrants came along since mid 1800 .

P.S: thanks Tathradj for this opportunity to start a new interesting post :)

lol .....
Well ... my background is Romanian, migrated to Australia in 2009 after 3 years waiting period for regional sponsored visa.
Born in Romania from Romanian parents , my parents ancestors .... father's background full romanian, mother`s background jewish as her father (my pop) was born in Israel...
During pop`s life, he migrated from Israel to Russia, and due of WW2 (nazi period) he had to run away to Romania due of the Nazi oppression and his Jewish name
( Benjamin ) ....
Father`s side, everyone born in Romania :)

Now proudly parent of 5 years old daughter ( from Romanian parents ) born in Australia ....... so she`s Aussie :)

Mine,
Fathers side, Spindler.
Southern German Stonemasons. Family immigrated to Australia in 1860 and settled in Kamaruka.
Got upset at Ben Boyd
Mums side, Grimmett, (Also Grimm. Yes, I know)
Prussian Nobles that fled to Scotland in the 1200AD rebellion. Immigrated and built Laanecoorie in
Victoria. All brothers settled around Tarnagulla and Moliagul. Hence my interest in the Gold Bash.
.
My Grandfather was a cheese maker at Kamaruka after the first world war. He was awarded the
Military Medal and also awarded for Bravery in the field of fire. One of the first Vickers Machine Gunner's.

Yeah why not. Been doing our family tree for nearly 10 years and have somewhere around 26,000 people on out joint tree.

My Great Grandfather on Dad's side was German. Story is he stowed away on a ship at the tender age of 8yo. He would have been very useful getting into all the small places on the ship. Anyhow, somewhere in the mid 1800's he jumped ship in Melbourne, or more particularly at Fishermans Bend as it was once known, now Port Melbourne. He headed for the gold fields but didn't have any luck so came back and settled at the Bend. He married and had I think about 6 kids.

Mt Great Grandfather on Mum's side came from Italy. He also came by boat but at an older age. He married twice and his second wife started my downline.

I really haven't been able to find out any more about either of them. I know who their parents are, but that's it. The rest of my ancestors are basically British.

Now on my wife's side, there is plenty of interest. But to keep it fairly simple, her 34G Grandfather was William The Conqueror. Yeah, I was pretty amazed also. It tracks back in an unbroken line. There are also plenty of Kings, Queens, Princes and Princess's from England and the continent. Another interesting link is she is related to the bloke who invented the Pullman Carriage in USA. Can't think of his first name without looking it up, but he was a big deal in the states. Apart from that she is related to various convicts and bushrangers.

But my personal claim is that I have two original ANZACS on my side. Both were on the beach at Suvla Bay. One survived. But fact is stranger than fiction. I spent 7 years in the Army and was in the Artillery. Now one of my blokes got the only artillery gun ashore at Gallipoli, and they dragged it up a ridge and lined up the Turks on the next headland who were giving our blokes hell. And yep, he knocked them out. So there you go, I knew nothing about him until within the last 10 years and obviously I was well out of the Army. So spooky I guess, but I'm really honoured.

Cheers

Ha ha ha just had a thought, members might find their related . Happened to me once at work the receptionist was telling family stories at an after work function. Turns out her grandmothers husband was my grandfathers brother on my mother's side, talk about freaky. I think that put us in the 3rd cousin bracket. Once I've done my research I'll fill in the gaps. Being 1 of 10 I have alot of relatives.

Oh snap :D

On mums side, we go back to 1st fleet. On dads side, my grand father was an orphan from England, put on ship and sent to an orphanage in SA at about 6 years old. His mum was probably an unmarried teenager, sent to a Covent to hide the shame of pregnancy out of wedlock. Does that qualify as stolen generation? No offence intended to Indigenous Australians.

I'm white parents were born here , mums parents were 10 pound poms shoesbury, dads are convict decendants

Well my mob are mainly from northern Ireland, some English and a Portuguese sailor that jumped ship in the early 1850's. They all, on both sides of the family, actually arrived in the early 1850's, mainly as so many others did at that time looking to get rich in the gold fields, but ended up making their living from running an inn in the Bet bet area, and farming at Yackandandah, as they didn't strike it rich in the gold fields. The inn keeper was an English widow that emigrated with her young daughter, to make a new life in Oz and married the sailor.

Rob.

My dads side are all from Holland. My grandfather immigrated to Australia with his wife in the 1950s. He was playing top level soccer and even represented Holland 8 times but had a falling out with the Dutch soccer board. Moved to Australia as did many Europeans in the day.
Mums side goes back to Scotland where they immigrated to Australia sometime in the mid 1800s. Apparently my 4g grandparents had 16 kids!! I guess they got bored at night time with no tv haha.
