Anyone going or has been there tonight? Went to it 4 years ago a loved it but thinking it might be the same stuff but still good to see. Ok time for a rant apparently its a great value for money experience $130 for a family, that's ok but apparently my son is not part of my family as his 16 so if going by the website I'll have to pay a family ticket plus another adult one for the son? If I go i think I'll just get family and see how I go. Just bloody greedy that nowadays they seem to be classing teenagers as adult prices when they can't do anything that an adult can and it seems to be getting younger all the time. all good now I've got it off my chest

Guess they have to pay for the fuel somehow, but it certainly isn't cheap to take families out to such events these days.

I went to the Reno air races for a whole week for much less than that, I think it even included the laughable Nevada live entertainment tax.

The yanks know how to put on a good cheap show, general admission for a qualifying day was about $5

I was going to drive down for it but when I checked the fine print on just what you get for your money it was a bit sad. Unless you mortgage your home and buy a gold pass you may as well just sit outside the fence.

Don't get me wrong I love a good airshow but just a bit peeved about the whole ticket structure.

Last time I went the best place to be was no where near the gold class . Right down the start of the runway was was the best (and the noisiest but that's good).

A lot of people just park on the side roads around Avalon. When we were driving out from the last air show I couldn't believe the view that they had.We can't make it there this weekend but if we did we would be parked up with the portable BBQ, deck chairs having a few JDs and you don't have to pay a cent. No crowds no wait 40+ minutes to get out and you still get a good view especially with the fighter jets.

I thought I'd Maybee do that next time I went but for me the best part is watching the takeoff right near the fence.something about ya insides vibrating with the noise pulses. Not good for the ears for detecting though. Trying to get out of the place is **** though.

Yeah Bjay get ready for the F-22 Raptor that jet fighter is a beast of a thing. I seen it fly for the first time in Australia about 4 years ago and i'm bloody spewing i won't be able to get there  but enjoy mate and don't bust a eardrum you need to look after those ears :D

I'll be taking my lady friend and my kids plus their friends (all up 10 of us) this Sunday. I love these.

Hey BW - if you could throw some pics up - I am certainly a fan as you know, but couldn't make it this year - heard it was the best show since they started.

I've been several times to Avalon, but then I flew into the show in the back of a P3 Orion or C130 and didn't pay as a Defence Employee. It's a bloody great show, especially when free :)

I first saw the Raptor full size mock up over 10yrs ago and go to go up to the cockpit, awesome piece of kit.

After 30 yrs getting paid working around aircraft, I wouldn't pay, lol.

First here at the L3 chalet on the flight line. Roulettes just arrived.

Bloody hell that looks a nice relaxing day,I ended up going but was out with the unwashed masses.

Been there a few times chatting to people about the aircraft. Entry seems expensive since we gave our time and flew in on the display aircraft, seems many others gave their time too.

My lary friend, kids, their friends and I ended up with beers and snacks (lunch) on the L3 chalet deck under umbrellas (yeah - it sucks - I know).
I love watching the Super Constellation (Connie) take off and do its slow RH turn as though it's off to England. (to me, it's a beautiful lady from the past and always sends shivers up my spine).
The much vaunted F35 Lightning (Joint Strike Fighter) ironically didn't fly today as it was headed home this arvo to its base at RAAF Amberley which was having a predicted Lightning storm, and didn't have a landing slot at the airshow (I call bull s*#t). It's evidently getting its lightning protection added in a few weeks.
We stayed until the F-22 Rartor finished its magnificent performance- what a beast.
Whilst I love the technology, I'm always frightened by mankind's propensity/capacity to kill en masse fellow humans.
3 hours trip home (1.5 hours there).
Hopefully will post some photos tomorrow.

My son and his girl friend went for the day to day. His first time. He was blown away with the whole thing. He couldn't get over the speed and manouverability of the US F22 Raptor. He said they moved like UFO's. So fast, and changing direction so sharp. I'll have to go next year. They left at 5pm and was stuck in the car park for two hours. He only got home 15 mins ago, but they did stop for some takeaway. He said getting out of the car park was a nightmare and would consider public transport next time.

I always go to the Tyabb bi annual air show, I just love the old warbirds.
Next one will be march 2018, I tried to take the little fella last year, that didn't go well.
I was super pissed off as the Sopwith pup was just flying overhead when the meltdown started.
Oh well, there is always my 1/4 scale to fly. :/

By the way for anyone that doesn't understand bi annual it's every 2 years.

How did our new f18 EA Growlers perform ? I saw them on the news coming in to amberly after the first day in Avalon . Another 10 will arrive mid year , while the 2 35s are meant to be here today but nothing on the news . Pity the yanks would not sell us the raptors ! They sound like magnificent machines !

Kind regards
