Hi Forum,
I'm travelling to Queensland to visit family over Christmas and being the active prospector I am, of course I am wanting to check out some ground while I'm up there.
I'm located in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Here in NSW I have a Fossicking Permit for State Forest's and obtain permits for certain crown land areas, and apart from that I have written agreements with a couple of private land owners which allows me to prospect their land.
I googled what fossicking / prospecting permits I require to prospect in QLD and was directed to the QLD Government website for "Fossicking Areas in Qld."
It states on there that you need a Fossicking License to fossick in Queensland and lists 6 locations for South East Qld: (the area closest to where I'll be visiting)
1/ Chinchilla.
2/ Thanes Creek fossicking area.
3/ Deep Creek fossicking area.
4/ Talgai State Forest fossicking area.
5/ Swipers Gully fossicking area.
6/ Durikai State Forest fossicking area.
It then also goes on to state that fossicking is not permitted in National Parks and State Forest's, mind you there are a couple of state forest's listed above?
My Question Is..........
Can someone who lives in Queensland please point me in the right direction with some clarity on where I can and can't prospect / detect?? And what I require to do so??
For reference, I am using my 'Trilobite App' along with my 'Bonzle Digital Atlas', 'Trove.com' for research and also private mapping which I have on USB of old mine sites.
I am visiting my old hometown of Caboolture (of 30yrs ago) and was hoping to explore the western, north-western parts around Conondale and Maleny. But these are National Parks, so if I'm correct in what the government website says, I can't prospect there??
I'm open to whatever information a fellow prospector can provide me or any suggestions of locations you can provide... I just wanted to do some Detecting and Panning / Sluicing with my son whilst I was up there in another state.
Thanks in advance,
Frank.
