.... and it's the same for Red Back Spiders - the Japanese love them. I find Red Backs on my property and a lady visitor once said "don't kill them" (btw I never have) I'll collect them and sell them.....

I know termite queens are worth alot of money too.

Funny thing is my son's little side business whilst at uni is catching, keeping and selling queen ants... its not as simple as that but yeah.
We also design and manufacture ant nests. It's a modular system so the best can expand as the colony grows...

I never thought it was a thing beyond the old ant farm. But here we are, three 3d printers later, funded by queen ant sales and working on wooden nests as I'm also a bit of a hobbyist woodworker.

Just got the all clear from the eye surgeon after my cataract surgery. Not quite as good as hoped but legal to drive and can be further improved with glasses.
With 2024 running out just couldn't resist squeezing in a quickie overnight stay in a motel at Wedderburn to try out my new eyes and satisfy my gold fever which had been unquenched for nearly 3 months.
Happy now that my eyes are working a lot better and allowing me to negotiate rough terrain more safely.
Gold was a bit light on with just 5 tiny bits for about 0.3 gr but an interesting speci also.
Originally I thought it was a quartz speci, but on closer examination it is actually a conglomerate speci with about 8 small bits of alluvial gold embedded. I think I'll keep that one.
Not the only thing we brought home. When opening the car door, we found this inch and quarter long bullant semi squashed but still kicking on the door sill of the car. Must have been attached to my wife's clothes when she was getting into the car at some time. I hate to think of how we might have reacted if we discovered it had gotten loose INSIDE the car while driving.

Selling things like this sounds like a biodiversity nightmare. Perhaps he sells fire ants up and down the east coast.

There used to be a couple travelling WA in a little caravan selling bullants. They were made from wire with the three main body parts consisting of a gold nugget. The couple broke up but I think she is still about here somewhere.
