Hey guys,

I just returned from a week away detecting and had a thought regarding accommadation.

I for one would normally camp out bush and I love it, however as the cold weather comes along I'm starting to think about the comforts of a cabin in a big 4 park or other park. (Due to spinal surgery, Roughing it gets a bit tough these days)
Or others that want to detect and don't have camping gear but are restricted in splashing out on accommadation, might be interested.

So I popped into a big 4 and made enquires, the following was discussed.

So a 6 berth cabin in a big 4, with full kitchen and shower, heater, tv etc would cost on average $100 a night or a little over.
I checked in bendigo area, bathurst and mudgee. Now shared between 6 gold enthusiasts, I think works out pretty cheap.

I know it's not everyone's idea of detecting but I'd be keen in sharing a beer, stories and a warm cabin with anyone else that is interested.

The wife knows your back each night in a cabin, safe and sound and accounted for.

Just wondering anyone else's thoughts?

Regards

Lambi

Life is too short not to have 'comfortable' fun.

i am sure the NSW boys are considering a trip to Bendigo at some stage. After a long drive, the ease of a shared cabin would make sense.

I always pack some 'plastic ignorance' when communal travelling, they help me get to sleep. I usually find I have pulled them out of my ears at some stage during the night. I know this because I have needed to put them back in when the buzz saws are on in the next room.

The pluses have always outweighed the negatives on the group trips I have done.

Hey Wally,

Mate the bendigo area has some good options in 2 big 4 parks I looked at. Cabins that sleep 6. I'm planning on a return trip in the very very near future with the Zed again.

For a little over $100 a night I think it is more than reasonable. For the nightly chat over beers, Im sure a couple of ear plugs are a small consideration.

I too like the idea Lambs, it could be a great way to make new friendships and makes a lot of sense $ wise for those looking for a comfortable, cheap and fun trip.
Great topic.

I stayed in one at Bendigo, I think it was in White Hills or something like that and found it to be fairly good. When we go to Beechworth we stay at Lake Sambell caravan Park and their prices were bit cheaper than the Bendigo place and the cabins were near new. The good thing about The Beechworth place is that it sits on top of the old gold fields and a leisurely walk has you traversing shaft ridden hillsides in 5 minutes. I think I even saw a youtube vid of some bloke crevicing the cracks in the concrete gutters in the caravan park and finding gold

Snoring can be a nuisance though, last year I gave my kids some ammo so that if Pops started snoring they were allowed to hurl it at him to shut him up.....by morning they were well and truly out of ammo :D

I reckon it would be good to meet new mates that way Lambs, let us know when your next trip is mate.

Good idea Lambs
I usually go away with two mates and we usually stay in similar accommodations, if we camped out the extra gear you need we will require 2 cars this way when we go away only need a small back pack. As well as we share the price of accommodation we do the fuel and food if we bring with us, which makes it a cheap weekend or long weekend. Since we haven't found anything of value yet, :( knowing it isn't costing us a fortune to go away makes up for it :) .
And I"m the one that snores so I usually get the extra room to myself instead of the bunks :p

I had 28 years working for Defence, I spent many a night sharing tents, bunkhouses and other accommodation as well as on occasion a single room.

The single room is the only time I recall that someone wasn't snoring.

When I first moved to bendigo I had a mate suggest trying the caravan park until I found the right place to move into. Went to the big 4 park in white hills negotiated a 4 berth with en suite for the month paid up front, came out at $250 for the week. Can't say it's the same owners and was a few years ago but what I can say for certain is dollars up front and a secured site definitely puts the negation in your favour.
My uncle goes to the golden nugget cp in white hills every year for the sheep show, pays cash for the following year a year in advance. I know for sure they can do a pretty good deal.

just over $16.60 a throw per night(that works out cheap),... if I were down that way I'd be interested,... but I'm all the way up here in SEQ.

I'd love to join you and see the Zed in action but I have used up my leave passes for the next few weeks.

I might try and rustle up a truckload or two of blokes early May and head down, you should have that new machine humming by then.

I'm up for a GT trip for sure. Cabins are great, though sometimes are a bit expensive. Good thing with Caravan parks is you can do what you like, set up camp, bring a caravan or get a cabin.

It's great to have a hot shower and a comfy bed at the end of the day, also aircon and a microwave.

I love camping also but yeah in the middle of Winter or Summer it's not comfortable.

Geez I don't snore do I Wally? :D
