If you want to expand your opportunities for prospecting in Western Australia then you should learn how to submit a 40e Permit application. It opens up huge tracts of land that are covered by exploration licenses and otherwise closed to prospecting. The 40e permit can cover up to ten adjoining graticules, roughly ten square miles or 2600Ha. That's a lot of walking and swinging to do in the couple of months allowed.

One of the conditions of the 40e permit is that you must report your gold finds, and the location that you found it, to the exploration company holding the lease. I know some people take this as a thankless task because you're unlikely to ever hear any more about it. It does however assist the company by indicating where the gold is (or was) located.

After our last four weeks in the north Mrs M did the usual report stating what gold was found and included coordinates of the finds. A week later we were surprised to get a response from the mining company asking for photos of the nuggets so that they could see the type or shape of the gold found. Of course we immediately responded because Mrs M photographs just about everything dead or alive.

The outcome was an offer to prospect of a different lease covering more than four times the area covered by a 40e and it's close to home as well. The map supplied even indicated where they had already found alluvial gold so you never know when you might get lucky.

Make sure you get those gold reports in if you want to be in the draw to win :)

I wish there was something like this in Queensland. I have been having a hard time just trying to find contact details.

Hope you dont mind if I ask a few questions I have about the on line 40e application process

Online application.jpg
Online application 2.jpg
I gather I have to down load the A1 form then upload the correctly completed form to the online system, my question is ..
with the two other uploads ....Licensee Statement under Regulation 4H and Other documentation being submitted in support of the online transaction i.e. covering letter. Is it best practice to include these two items or does optional mean they are only required under certain specific circumstances ?

I think I only ever attach the form 1A.

It's a bit silly because this is just an exact copy of the data you enter into the online document. It's something that should be sorted out but for now all the info you place on that form will be the same entered through the MTO. You'll be required to pay about $105 at the end.

All uploaded forms need to be in *.pdf format. I just print it to file as a Windows .pdf.

Yeah it is a bit silly to have an on line system that you enter the same information as the form they ask you to fill in and upload
Bureaucracy
I haven't decided on a place to apply a 40e yet , this was just a dry run to understand how the process works for when and if I do find a place..
Thanks for the help Phil much appreciated

Ok now that my brain has woken up a bit. I would guess the 4H will be if you have written authority from the lease holder.

The MTO systems a bit outdated it only does half the job, although tenegraph web is a 1000 time better than the the original Atari version, but the form 1A is a legal document, so double check before sending as you’ll have to amend and have all party’s involved initial amendments if a mistake is made, I left the letter of the front of my miners right once and it got rejected.
Good luck on your adventures.

Hi there, for a 40E application, you only need to submit the Form 1A - No additional forms are required unless the department specifically requests further documentation or supporting information related to your application.
