Great find mate. I have a question. I have not prospected for any coins yet but would like to have a go. I have been reading on some of these post that you guys use screwdriver to "pop the coin out". Is that some special way to do it? To me it sounds like that causes minimal damage but i have actually never seen it done. Can you explain please? Thanks

just type into youtube "coin popping with a screw driver' there are quite a few and its not as hard as it sounds

Good to hear you like your AT Pro International beach detecting addict!!
I'm getting one for my 40th (I got it but its sitting under the bed, bloody wife won't let me touch it :( ), which is on Tuesday. I was umming and arring about getting either the AT Pro, AT Pro International or the AT Gold. I did a bit of Googling and uTubing and came to the conclusion the AT Pro Int was the way to go. I have been a bit worried if I made the right decision (cause it cost more!) or not but hearing your comments makes me that little bit more at ease :)

Thanks!

When it comes to the AT Gold you just need to know your machine really well-
and Yes my machine has been fooled a few times when I check targets I'm unsure of.
So I do wonder if I miss the good stuff sometimes.

After pinpointing with the detector, you use the screwdriver to pry open a hole, and feel around for the buried target and pop it out of the hole (in conjunction with an electronic pinpointer), it's just less invasive than using a lesch or garrett trowel, especially on manicured turf. To avoid damage to the target, you can get brass tipped probes that will not scratch your coins or jewellery, I learnt the hard way scratching a half penny with a screw driver, so the screwdriver is now only used for opening up a hole. Most detector shops sell the probe, pretty sure Garrett sell a pouch/trowel/probe kit.

This method is also probably a better way of recovering targets in dry ground during the summer months, makes less of a mess, and don't have to worry about plugs not regrowing properly due to the soil crumbling apart. Done properly, you would not even know someone had been there. It also gives you confidence to work in areas where you may feel a bit self conscious about digging plugs all over the place. :)

Hi bb first I pinpoint with my detector, then I use my garrett pro pointer to check if the target is close to the surface by placing the tip on the grass and moving all over the target area. And quite often the pro pointer goes off, then I push the screw driver into the ground and make a little hole and feel around with my fingers if I can't feel the target I use the pro pointer in the hole to locate the object. If done correctly you won't scratch the object and also you can barely see were you have been. Just takes practice mate.
cheers Rob ;)

Hi SF first off all happy 40th birthday mate, you made a good decision with the at pro international just do what I do when the minister of war and finance is being stubborn BRIBERY mate they are suckers for a shopping trip lol but the down side is you have to accompany them :( .

I still get fooled sometimes by pull tabs because they read 53 on the detector same as the 10 cent piece but I use the iron audio button to double check the target. It takes time to get used to the detector SF I hunt in pro mode all metal mate because it discriminates bottle tops but not all aluminium bottle tops.
cheers Rob
p.s have a great birthday mate :)

Yesterday I hit an old school play ground, I was detecting for nearly 3 hours and pocketed $31.35.

$20 in $2 coins
$5 in $1 coin
$1 in 50 cent
$3 in 20 cent coins,
$1.50 in 10cent coins
85 cents in 5 cent pieces

I dug a bit of rubbish and don't I hate those old aluminium bottle tops :( they read like a $2 coin on the at pro.
Most of the coins were filthy and will need laundering ;) sorry people there are no pictures as I don't know how to upload them.
cheers Rob
